Microsoft has done one thing that many will hesitate to do. They listened to consumers. It takes a lot of courage to admit your actions and roll back.

yes all hail the virtuous MS!  I seem to recall a year of rumors about how Nextbox would be and the vitriol that every one generated.  They all turned out to be true.  Some of them MS repealed after they saw the solid sales coming back to bite them and then they waited another year to repeal Kinect.  So in short they don't care about consumers and it took little courage to reverse a policy when basically every single rumor and then fact about your box was generating negative press and they were getting destroyed in polls.

You are partially correct. But again they listened. At the end of the day this is what matters.

Gee all the attacks I got on other sites for saying that X1 would pass the Wii U worldwide were ridiculous, so I'd be lying if I said that this didn't make me content in some ways.

This goes out to all the lurkers that only take these numbers at face value, refuse to delve deeper into the matter and then go to sites like reddit to tell the world that the Wii U is set for second place, where they are of course met with agreement cause reddit loves Nintendo: I told you so ;)

that's not what people said when Sony improved PSN both throughout the gen and after the hack.

I think ignoring your fans for a year matters and the sales show it.

Yep I didn't understand all the hoopla either, Nintendo fans were all cocky during the summer now they're nowhere to be seen (not all Nintendo fans obviously)

And now its the other way around. Another flip when smash releases aswell, etc.

The fact of the matter is, both systems are set to underperform. I'm not sure anyone should be completely satisfied with the situation.

Microsoft has done one thing that many will hesitate to do. "They listened to consumer's wallets". It takes a lot of courage to admit your actions and roll back.

Fixed.

Had they changed before preorder, you know listened to consumers before wallets got involved, flipped switches and what not, they probably wouldn't be getting outsold 2:1, and 3:1 YTD. They probally through any chance of 1st this gen away. In this industry fixing your mistakes isn't admirable, because everyone makes em and everyone pays the price for them. What requires true skill is not making mistakes and not fucking up, it takes skill to read the market and courage to trust them. MS did neither of those things. So yeah, owning up to their mistakes, we can give em a pat on the back, they don't get a medal or even a congratulations.

You don't give a medal to a competent company for doing what its supposed to do. Especially, when its not like they had a real choice otherwise.

EDIT: If anything, in their futile climb for first, they are pulling down everything they can. Sure many can defend it with MS is doing what they have to do, but it doesn't mean its good for gamers and they wouldn't be in this situation if they didn't purposelly ignore consumers until sales started to drop.

They are for business just like everyone else. So whats wrong in it? I am a playstation guy and I am defending MS. Why? Because these are facts.

This is a problem that Microsoft created themselves, with negative effects on gamers. So I'm not defending MS or Sony, I'm defending gamers, and fact is when gamers said no, and Microsoft said "we'll think about it" then waited till preorders to do anything. Gloated about their million sales, then when 2015 started they realized that Gamers were serious.

Just because its a buisness doesn't mean its defensible, because Buisness is buisness. When you fuck with your consumers. you don't get a medal for apologizing, you should be grateful they even consider you and your product. As you said, its a buisness like everyone else. and Buisness serve consumers not the other way around. When Gamers said, we don't want Kinect, MS should have been like, "Yessir, anything else we can do for you". The fact that XB1 released in the state it did was an egregious insult to consumers, then when they perpetuated the problems because they didn't beleive consumers would actually do anything, they destroyed much of the good will they had with the 360.

A crappy buisness decision, changing things might cost money, but losing customers cost them the entire generation.

Well... Smash well help move some Wii U console, but everything else they do probably won't be as significant. Unless the new Zelda game is really impressive. So I don't think they have many flips left in them via software.

X1 has more noteworthy titles coming down the road from 1st and 3rd parties. That's going to give them an edge regardless of what Nintendo can do.

Both system are underperforming, but major 3rd parties only gave up on Wii U.

2nd place is up for grabs. MS seems a favourite thanks to Americans buying their HaloBox, but Nintendo isn't out of the fight. They need to do more than they showed at this year's E3 though, but I think they are on track to improve the situation from last year. It probably depends on how much PS4 mops the floor with Xbone and becomes the go-to platform for 3rd party games. If MS convinces Americans (people in EU and Japan won't even listen, lol) that they can go with Xbone for all 3rd party games and don't think of the Xbone as only a HaloBox, they may get that 2nd place.
