Microsoft sure love wasting money. Why not invest that into Rare and bring them back to their former glory?

Their former glory was hype.

Their best days were on the SNES. Everything they did on the N64 was over rated.

Even the former employees of Rare haven't done anything noteworthy.

Nearly everything they ever did on Nintendo platforms was brilliant. Microsoft wasted their talent away and now they are nothing. That can't be denied. Microsoft ruined Rare.

I think what ruined Rare was their inability to create games that Xbox fans enjoy. Rare rode the coattails of Nintendo.

Rare's only work that actually passed the test of time is their 8 and 16 bit games. Most of N64 work was hype and aged horribly.

As I've said before, if that old Rare team was as talented as you believe they would have moved to another studio and created hits. As far as I'm aware that didn't happen.

To be fair Nintendo was probably what made Rare able to make such great games back then.

Microsoft should take more risks with their first parties and create new franchises (like sony has)

Stuff like Sunset Overdrive, Alan Wake and Quantum Break add some good diversity to what sells the Xbox anyway.  I would like to see more new gaming franchises from Microsoft and i'm sure they could do it

Well MS did take risks with Rare, they created several new IPs. Unfortunately, none were really noteworthy outside of Kinect Sports.

I actually think the games Rare made for MS were more tolerable than N64 work, but the Xbox audience had little interest in those games. Rare didn't/doesn't know how to make games Xbox fans enjoy. Atleast that's my view.

Sony makes new IPs, but they aren't really taking big risks. I mean TLoU wasn't a risk, zombie games sell well. Driveclub isn't a risk either.

I don't get why people are so interested in new IPs. MS doesn't need to make new IPs to make great new games. Hence, they can make something that feels new and great with an already established IP. Just like what Square Enix did with Tomb Raider.

I think they need some new IP's as they can't always rely on 3rd party deals like Tomb Raider. Alot of the time they only get early DLC anyway which to me anyway doesn't make owning an Xbox worthy. If Microsoft used their first party to create a variety of stuff that could be different.

But i think games like Heavy Rain and Ico were kinda risky because of how different they were.

MS doesn't need to rely on 3rd parties but taking advantage of them makes sense. MS, Sony, and Nintendo and all guilty of having some dependence on 3rd parties.

MS can make new or IPs or they could make new games with classic IPs. I used Tomb Raider as an example of an old IP turned into something new and great.

Heavy Rain and Ico aren't recent risks. Probably the biggest risk Sony took in recent years was Beyond Two Souls but that was lame. Sony basically killing the Vita shows they aren't interested in risks at the moment.

I liked the Rare games for the 360. Kameo was very enjoyable(and a launch game as well) and the kids and I loved Viva Pinata(and the animated series). I think the problem Rare had was more of an 'OMFG! Why can't you just remake Battle Toads and KI and Jet Force Gemini and GoldenEye! We don't care about anything else you might want to make and we'll hate it because reasons!' as opposed to them actually making bad games.

You also need to add 0.5-1 to your Amalur score. It's better than a 6/10.

Nah, Goldeneye is still awesome, even if it's horrible to play with a N64 controller.

Also no future success? How about Timesplitters?

I feel a 5 point system is less arbitrary. Adding a 0.5

This is how my system works...

1 - Very bad or unplayable
2 - Can be enjoyable, but I probably forced myself to complete it.
3 - Good, worth playing but can get tedious.
4 - Great, I really enjoyed it inspite of some flaws.
5 - The Bee's Knees
