Just saw a breaking news alert from CNBC stating Microsoft is near a deal to purchase Minecraft for $2 Billion. The story is still developing so there are no details yet. If true, that is one heck of a payday for the group that owns the IP.

I don't see why you would spend $2billion on Mojang. They made Minecraft and? That's $2billion you could spend on way better things.

I don't like it. They need to invest that $2B into more 1st party studios and new IPs.

Probably means it will be Windows Phone + XBox exclusive from here on out.

I don't know what they hope to accomplish with that purchase. Yes, Minecraft is insanely popular...but it's one property...and it's too late to pull it from the PS4. If they wanted to make an impact, they should have bought them BEFORE the game launched on the competing platform.

I agree 100%. While I really like Minecraft I do not think it is a smart investment to spend $2B on. They could do so many more things for the XB1 with that money. Like you said more studios and new IPs.

I think this would be pointless... Like, Minecraft has pretty much sailed its course in terms of being a system seller and granted its still selling but I doubt anyone would buy an x1 for it cause they can play it on PC or ps3/360/mobile cause a shit ton of people already bought it on those platforms... So I think this whole thing would be a waste of money and MS should rather spend it one something else like developing more games or heck, make FFXV an exclusive or something
