Forums - Movies & TV - Studio Ghibli [temporarily] shuts down production department

A God has fallen today...though I was an American child, Studio Ghibli was part of my childhood...Princess Mononoke, Howl's Moving Castle, Spirited Away were apart of my start of my anime/manga lifestyle....truly a sad day

Around the Network

After Toshio Suzuki stepped down last year and with Miyazaki retiring, there were rumors going around Japanese press, even before it's release, that When Marnie Was There, would be their last film, so color me not surprised in the slightest.

It's not over yet!

Seems like they're taking a break to re-organize.

Wait... it took 6 pages before someone posted this? (or I could be just blind and didn't see it). lol!

Anyways I'm glad it isn't over yet because I'll be extremely sad if it is the end.

What does this mean for my dream of getting a Ni No Kuni sequel???

It wasn't much of a sales success so if anything it contributed to the downfall of the studio, and probably isn't an IP that someone else will pick up and continue, sadly.

For what it is I'd say it was a huge sales success, how many JRPGs still break a million nowadays? The Tales series hasn't done it in forever and still seems to be quite healthy.

Ni No Kuni on PS3 could have been a bit more successful in Japan, but I heard that that didn't perform so well because all the marketing was spend on the DS version, which has sold over 500k over there. I think a sequel could be very lucrative and I'd love it if Sony chipped in to make this dream of mine a reality.

Tales of Xillia sold over a million copies and so did Tales of Vesperia if you combine the sales of the 360 and PS3 version and Tales of the Abyss did it also if you combine the PS2 and 3DS version and Tales of Xillia 2 will most likely sell over 1 million copies also.

Damn, yeah I didn't check right. The point still stands though, if we combine both Ni No Kuni versions then it sold 1.77 million, more then enough to warrant a sequel in my opinion.

Well there probably will be one but I wouldn't excpect one anytime soon.  I also forgot that Tales of Grace also crossed the million mark with the PS3 and Wii version.  It would have been nice if the PS3 version of Tales of Vesperia would have been localized for the west I would have double dipped or at least the added contend should have been made available as DLC for the 360 version.
