the first uncharted looked okay back then

Uncharted 2 looked the best

Uncharted 3 looks like crap compared (it was rushed, but people don't want to admit it)

Last Of Us looks a bit better than Uncharted 2 during cutscenes but was very lacking during gameplay

Yeah I agree Naughty Dog is very overrated and they use really shameful techniques to fool people (make games extremely linear, removing anti aliasing for better textures...etc) the way they handled Uncharted 3 was really really poor but people just ignored it for a while and then after the hype went down realized how rushed it was (even the story was shit), on the other hand we have Guerilla Games for example that actually do amazing things in terms of graphics with what they're limited too.

However the big difference between the two is one makes a first person shooter with the most generic characters possible, and the other makes actual memorable characters, honestly the best thing about Killzone is the lore and the villians , the main characters are just so.... generic, and the story other than the first one are so so bad.

Uncharted 2 and TLOU really look great though and naughty dog did a great job at getting the most out of the ps3. You could argue that many developers use techniques to fool people like epic and guerilla who seemingly didn't realise there was more colours than brown and grey until gears 3 and killzone shadowfall although gears 3 and Killzone SF do look great. The question is if naughty dog can continue to set the bar in terms of graphics moving away from the complexity of developing for the ps3 which many third parties just didn't have the time or patience to master with the 360 there.

Yes, but it will also force them to make more these techniques in favor of not getting a backlash from people who hype their games for their graphics.

meaning more cutscenes and less interactivity, its the same happening for FFXV by the way.

I'm sorry? This gen is going to cause devs to use more tricks?

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

crap like Watch Dogs

When a WiiU game is even remotely close to WD gameplay/innovation/richness/graphics, please call me back.

Also your "graphics don't matter" stuff is totally contradictory : if graphics are not that important, then there's no need to go PC and there's even advantage to get a PS4 given the PS exclusives + numerous Japanese games never going to be on PC.

Well, when the OG xbox released, it's graphics card was 2x more powerfull than any PC GFX card avaliable at the time.  When the x360 released, it's graphics capabilities was roughly on par with the top of the line GFX cards out.  But with this Gen, there have been GFX cards (such as the radion R9 290x) that were already 5x more powerfull than the PS4's GFX card at the time of release, and that gap is only going to get bigger.

Then again, you have to look at the other side of it.  Right now, the next gen consoles only cost $200 more than a last gen console.  Thats not really a lot considering that the last gen. consoles have been out for 8 years.  So yes these consoles are much weaker than consoles that have come before them, but they are also much cheaper.

Consider, when the X360 & PS3 released, they were $400 & $500-600.  Now, eight years later the next gen. consoles are both $400, which while you might be saying that that is the same price, you have to remember that over the coarse of 8 years, the value of the dollar has inflated considerabally, and so $400 was a lot more money back in 2006 than it is today in 2014.

All i'm seeing here is Wii U propaganda
Saying things don't make them true you know

This whole "jump is smaller" thing is nonsense. You can't take the consoles and just place them next to current PCs. This gen the jump is bigger, you know why? Because last gen lasted too long. The consoles were last year more outdated than the other gen ever was. THAT's how you measure a generational jump.

Actually that ain't correct.

PS3/X360 were more powerful than high end PCs at the time of their release. They were also a lot more expensive at the time of their release than PS4/X1 are today even though they were sold at a loss.

PS4/X1 equal medium PCs at best, and even though they are cheaper than PS3/X360 were at the beginning they are sold at a profit.

PS4/X1 are already outdated at the time of their release.

Bolded part also isn't true. I mean if you talk about raw hardware it probabily is, but that's not how you measure a generational leap. SNES to PS1/N64, PS1/N64 to PS2/GC/Xb, PS2/GC/Xb to PS3/Wii/X360 all had bigger leaps than you had this generation. 3D gaming, HD gaming, motion controls, etc all implemented big leaps in past gaming generations. Now all you have is better lightning and textures, and console manufacturers didn't event bothered to build high-end consoles to really improve those textures at the highest standards of today's technology.

What if the developers and the hardware companies can't afford a big leap right now? I'm not saying it's a fact, it's just a theory. Spending so much money on graphics and details while some of the developers, like Crytek, can't see the profit they expected. Maybe this is not the best example, but I'm willing to bet that most of the developers are playing it safe with the modest console hardware. Besides, it's too early to say that the consoles have reached their limit.

Stopped reading right there.

Explain how thats not true?

To comment on the video, let me just quote ''we did not focus on power consumption''. If they did it would show something like this:

Power consumption GTX 480 card only:                       ~270 Watts

Power consumption Playstation 4 entire system:       ~135 Watts

That means just one GTX 480 consumes twice the amount of power as an entire Playstation 4 system. In other words if you would try to use a card like the GTX 480 in a console it would fry in minutes.

This was a bad example. Newer cards have a much lower TDP with the same power as the 480. Refer to the 660 on this list. By the way the watts shown are full system usage. Not just the cards.

In fact just to prove how misinformed your post was. http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/1130?vs=1135 750 ti is very similar to the 480. The 750 ti has an entire system usage of 184 Watts in Crysis 3. While getting 1080p and near 60fps.

1. First of all both the Xbox one and Ps4 are stronger then the Wii u. For the last two gens Nintendo has made consoles which graphically would have been superior in previous gens but lack the power in the current gen.

2. Why did you state that watchdogs was "crap" , many people like hating on AA.... games for no reason, yet indies are seen perfect even though most Indies are horrible except a select few such as journey and super meat boy.

Overall you made a good article. Tried to contradict you on the next gen point but honestly you are right.

Watchdogs is really really bad, almost all the gameplay involves fetch quests and really bad ones too, the storyline is very poor and the characters are very forgetable, the idea that a whole city is using a single OS to control everything is also mind numbly stupid, I can go for a while to critise it without mentioning the graphics (I don't care about graphics at all really)

I also think most indie games are crap so your judgment about that is misplaced, I'm not praising indie developers, they make the most generic games ever and people buy them because "lol 8 bit " or something, only few games that are worth mentioning because they're good like this game

.

This is one of the best RPGs you will play in a long while, its super good

and there is also this, which is even though a clear rip off of Sonic, its actually a lot better than anything Sonic was in since... forever?

The story however sounds like some fanfic made by a group of furies on deviantArt, thankfully you can turn off the whole storyline because the gameplay is one of the best in recent years.

Really? I was done here:

Honestly I just had it when Animal Crossing was releasing and I acted like Isabelle and then afterwards i just didn't bother changing it lol.

Yeah I love Animal Crossing but that doesn't make me a Nintendo Fanboy
