Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Wind Waker HD: Mixed thoughts

After owning LOZ The WindWaker HD for 8 month, I finally finished the game yesterday. I didnt play it when I first got it cuz I was so busy with Pokemon and LBW.

I never had the chance to play th original and was waiting to play this, but Pokemon is just way to powerful to resist.

Anyways, after a while I finally played it and enjoyed it, until and I repeat until I reached the Triforce shards quest.

WHO THE HELL EVER THOUGHT ABOUT ADDING THIS!?

I have no idea how is it even possible to finish this quest without a walkthrough. Is it even possible ?

So I stopped playing cuz apparently I hate following walkthroughs. I can check a thing or two, but following one for a whole quest is just so boring and painful for me.

I finally decided to finish it and i'd like to say the puppet boss fights were great, especially figuring out how to beat the spider.

So here are my thoughts.

Pros: Best combat in the series, great soundtrack as always, stunning visuals and Toon Link's reactions are just awesome.

Cons:Bad story, INCREADIBLY EASY! Horrible boss fights! Puppets are the only exception. A big useless world that ended up frustrating me.

I know the game has Hero mode, but the enemies themselves are still going to fight the same way and bosses are still awful.

I feel like I am missing something in the Triforce quest, but I didnt find any hints.

This could have been one of the best Zeldas, but for me (OPINION) it is the worst 3D Zelda; nevertheless, it is still awesome.

Eh.. I thought the story and bosses were quite decent, but yes, WWHD is a very easy game and that's what really bugs me about the game,,

The story is awesome and kinda sad. Its not easier than Twilight Princess or Skyward Sword imo. I like the bosses. The Wind Temple is not very fun though.

Ive always liked the sailing in the game

Pretty much how I've felt about the Wind Waker ever since first playing it over a decade ago.

The WiiU port does make life a bit easier though, especially during the Triforce Quest. On the WiiU, they give most of the pieces outright while on the GameCube you got Treasure Charts instead. Also you have the Swift Sail on the WiiU, which makes the traveling less tedious. It made me put the game above Spirit Tracks in my all-time favorite Zelda game list, but I agree it's still the weakest 3D Zelda.

Obviously a good game, but most of your problems with it are also my problems with it.

For Wind Waker I like the story, the presentation and the mood it manages to set accompanied by it's soundtrack which I find is the best in the series. While I feel the weaknesses of the game lie in the short and the few dungeons, and the world itself on top of it's easy difficulty.

As for the Triforce Quest, yes it's kind of tedious, but the game does actually provide ample hints to complete it fairly easy. First the King of Red Lions mentions some things, and you get the IN-credible Chart which basically outright says where everything is. It's really incredible (to use Tingle's words )

Sounds like you need a genre of games that is not quite as difficult. Not trying to be mean here, but that game is incredibly easy. I just beat the HD version a few weeks ago. The most time consuming part was getting everyone in the Nintendo Gallery.

Wait, you call the game incredibly easy then go on to say how you cannot beat it without a walkthrough FAQ. Isn't that the definition of hypocrisy?

I finished it without a walkthrough when I was 14 years old. Beat the game, whilst taking my time, in 10 days without much problems.

Majoras Mask was the last Zelda game I would call challenging. Its more about the journey these days.

I played it when it came out, loved it, best Zelda imo. I enjoy exploration which made it the perfect game for me. I mapped all the islands as soon as the world opened up, making my own map with notes as I went along. Never had any trouble with the triforce quest.

Difficulty was fine too, I'm playing Zelda for the world, characters and puzzles, not for challenging combat around every corner. I did have a bit trouble with the hands boss in the tower since I didn't know about Z-targeting at the time. Shooting the hands without that is frigging hard.

The only downside of the game for me was that there was obviously a dungeon missing before the end. A simple corridor and a couple repeat fights was too short for the ending.

I had no trouble with any of the puzzles except for a couple minutes of confusion on how to get in the mother and child island.

Consoles: 3DS, Wii U, and Vita soon. Super Paper Mario fan.
