Forums - Gaming Discussion - Third party games are not a selling point for the XB1.

Being that the XB1 and PS4 compete for the exact same crowd, its understandable why third parties won't be a selling point for it. Anyone buying a console for third parties will either buy it on the console that his friends have or the console that plays it the best.

But at least the XB1 has got third parties.

^This.

While the XB1 has third parties, it's like bragging about how much more powerful your gun is, if it had bullets. The third parties would be a huge selling point for the XB1, if it weren't for the fact you can get better versions of them for the same price on the PS4.

So you're saying that because some 3rd party titles look a little better on PS4, it actually makes the Xbone's 3rd party situation WORSE than Wii U, which sees next to no AAA 3rd party support? Sorry, but uh...

Also, keeping with that same logic, I guess then that the PC is the only platform that 3rd party games are a selling point on.

Their third party situation isn't worse than the Wii U's, their entire situation is. The Wii U doesn't get much third party support, but Nintendo has a vast library of established first party franchises to work with. The XB1 has two large first party franchises, an average racing racing sim, and a couple of new IPs. Their major holiday release is an HD remaster. Third parties were the reason for XB360's massive success. The XB1 can't rely on the third party games to push consoles to players that won't already buy it for stuff like halo or gears. It's a way worse situation because their main selling point is no longer selling, because there's a better place to get them, whereas the Wii U's main selling points are exclusive to it.

If you read what I posted it's painfully clear that no one buys an XB1 for third party games.

Notice how everyone posting just to denounce my claims has yet to offer any reason as to why someone would buy an XB1 for third party games. "It's only a little weaker ad the exclusive content for the other guy is only a little better" is not a selling point. Would you put that on the side of the XB1 box? No? Not really a selling point then.

Find me a few legit people that have zero interest in Halo, Gears, Sunset Overdrive, Forza or Project Spark, but will buy an XB1. You can't do it. No one decides to spend the same amount of money for an inferior product on purpose. If you are buying an XB1 it's solely because of its exclusives, the third party titles are the after thought.

lol @ underlined. Can you find me some "legit" people who have no interest at all in Mario, Smash Bros, Mario Kart, or Zelda, but will buy a Wii U? You cannot, because unlike the Xbone where even if you don't care for MS games you still have amazing 3rd party support, if you don't care for Nintendo games there is 0 reason to own a Wii U.

The idea that you get good MS games and all of the next gen 3rd party stuff is absolutely a selling point for the Xbone. Your desire for me to find someone completely uninterested in anything MS games related to buy an Xbone is just silly. Next thing you'll ask is for me to find someone who despises metal music yet owns every Megadeth album. If that's the stretch you have to go for to make a point then it's probably not a point worth making.

Got a point there. You buy the console of your choice because of the games and features unique to that system. Right now, 3rd party games make up the majority of the X1 and PS4's libraries. However, they always run better on the PS4. 3rd party games aren't that strong selling points (doesn't mean that they aren't selling points, though) for the X1 because why buy the inferior versions when you can get the much better ones on the PS4? While the Wii U has poor 3rd party support, it is not a redundant system. Bayonetta 2, Xenogears Chronicles X, Smash Bros, Zelda U, Splatoon, and Hyrule Warriors. All exclusive and unique to the Wii U. Nintendo has a bunch of 1st party devs and they're obviously going to take advantage of that. You're much better off with a PS4 + a Wii U than a PS4 + a X1 because the latter combination is predominantly redundant, even if the Wii U and X1 were to be evenly priced.

The article contradicts itself when it talks about watch dogs. Admitting that the xbox one did in fact get a boost, even if it was minor. Obvious conclusion is third party games still sell consoles on the xbox one...

Bolded - Explain this to me. If you're not buying XB1 exclusives, why aren't you getting a PS4? It's the same price, has the exact same games in that case, makes those games look and run better, and offers exclusive content in those games that you won't get with the XB1 version.

The answer is you don't get the XB1 to play third party titles.

Conclusion: Third party titles are not going to be moving XB1s.

The advantage Nintendo offers is a much wider audience for Nintendo first party games than there is for Microsoft first party titles. Halo is on the decline, and even at its highest moments it just doesn't compete with the Mario franchise and Gears doesn't compare to Zelda as a franchise.

The fact Nintendo games are so varied is another boost for a system relying on first parties to survive, and that's something XB1 lacks. XB1's biggest exclusives are mech shooter, alien shooter, alien shooter, zombie shooter, car sim. Well blow me away, that's some variety. Nintendo's biggest exclusives are platformer, adventure, jrpg, character action, kart racer.

Nintendo has almost entire genre's exclusively to itself for the foreseeable future.

You also missed the entire point of my mental exercise. If you can't find someone who will buy XB1 without wanting its first person exclusives, you can't find someone that would buy an XB1 for third party titles. This means third party titles are not a selling point for the system. Period. There is no counter argument here. That's why no single post has offered a counter point, it doesn't exist. There's factual data showing this with WD sales and there's going to be more with Destiny sales.

Did Inferior ports affect the PS3?

Seems to me like its a Halo machine again.

Maybe thats why they called it Xbox One...?

destiny preorder already shows this, we dont have to wait until release. xbone fans are just in denial. Your points are explained perfect, and the lack of counter argumments proove it. I sujest ignoring thouse replys that rely on hope and dreams with no evidence, or you will just go round in circles with people that just close their eyes at the truth.

You know why it didnt? Because the ps3 had a lot of first party exclusives that people where happy to get and loose a little quality in the multyplats for. But the xbox aside from halo wich is on the decline, has no good first partys that ,ake people want to take the lower quality multyplats for. Its a give and take, but the xbox has no give this time around.
