Forums - Gaming Discussion - Nintendo is too afraid of making a mature game

Nintendo is mainly a company working on games for families which includes 40 years old or older people.

Games you probably mean aren't aimed at older people, they are probably even aimed at an on average younger audience. A Mario Kart is probably not played by an on average younger audience as a Gears of War even if Gear is a game rated "mature" or stuff like that. Same with a half naked female protagonists. That's not aimed at older people, it's for guys especially in the puberty. Sure, most Nintendo games are great for kids but the good thing about their games is that they are for old and young people.

I would like to see games like Skyrim from Nintendo but most of their games are totally fine for adults even if they have funny colours and characters.

If you still want nothing after these last 8 years but olive drab and brown tinted "mature" games with steroid injected men shooting and beating each other up, there are other systems for you dude bra.

It's so funny that some people think that a mature games necessarily need to have or nudity or blood splashing everywhere. The true mature games are so great that it just don't need to appeal to something like this. One example is Zelda Majora's Mask, that game treat themes like death, partnership with a so mature looking without spilling a drop of blood, this is a true mature game.

But, if you play GTA and really think that just run over everyone in your way driving like a crazy is a mature game, so probably you are a guy with near 13 to 16 years old, that need a little more life experience to know what really is a mature game (I'm not saying GTA is a bad game, it's great in his way, but it's not a game that you can say "mature", it's just free violence).

Well, Pachofilauri, I do believe that if that is to happen, they will need to create a new brand or purchase a competitor. Just like a car company that produces reliable family cars. They may be bogged down if they start producing sports cars under the same brand. Instead they create a "new" brand and both keep their respective "titles" and reputations. If one really sucks, the other lives on.

Expand their IPs? I disagree. Making a violent mario, for example, would destroy the legacy. New IP's? Yes. But I specifically bought a Wii U because I only need 2 third party games and I wanted Nintendo's awesome 1st party games mostly. I am there market now. And they are my market. They really don't have to please the guy I used to be, because that guy, regardless, owned a Ps3, Ps2 and Psx. Bought a Wii when I wasn't quite done with that phase and sold it due to lack of 3rd party support. To be honest, I like my Wii U and the experience with it better than any of the above (also bought a gamecube in college and was embarrassed by it. Liked it, but tended to play the Ps2 because it was cool, which really only furthers my point).

A mature game to me is Crusader Kings, Civilization or Europa Univesalis. Now if they were to release those on the Wii U, they could sell 250k +  a small profit made. It would be interesting and very well could end up a disaster, but those are real mature games for intelligent people. Times are changing and as the teenys age, anyone with sense or taste will pack in there GTA and realize that going forward, it's a good stragey game (alone), a Fifa/ Madden/ Golf (with friends local multiplayer or Mario Kart 8 (wife and/or kids) if/when you get to play.

(maybe not completely pack in the GTA, but seriously, these games collect dust unless you have days to sink into them)

This email thread actually made me laugh.   So tired of the Nintendo Wii U bashing.  I got to tell you. I grew up with Atari/Fairchild - owned a Sega Genesis, 32x, Sega CD, 3DO, N64, Playstation, and first XBOX.  After 10 years of having an XBOX at the end of the day I had a library of 20 games.   I now own a Wii U that we purchased in December for the family - we have close to the same amount of games and I've never had more fun with a console before.    To each is own, If you want a PS4 get it, same with XBOX One.   But to bash other systems is ridiculous.   It's like talking religion or politics with someone - might be a nice discussion or argument but you'll never pursuade someone based on your own preference.

hey, as a nintendo fan i agree with you. not on the bayonetta stuff, but on the mature part. i see and play games like bioshock, assassins creed, the witcher, uncharted and i say "why can´t nintendo do something like that?" sure mario is fun, mario kart is awesome, nothing beats zelda or metroid ,but they could expand their metroid/zelda audience with more games like that.

Very good post.  Much better than the OP and most of the "dur all M-rated games are grey shooters dur" throw-away responses.  Bleh.

Different people like different types of games and, often times, the same person can enjoy, and desire, games from different genres.  It's about diversity and offering your potential customers everything they could possibly want.  Most people don't just watch one type of show or eat one type of food.  Why those who DO only like one type of game cannot understand that, I'll never know.

Seriously, the types of gamers I have the least respect for are those who feel the need to attack other genres.
