Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Why does everyone want female Link so badly?

Are you in favor of a Female protagonist in Zelda Wii U?

Yes 99 49.75%

No 98 49.25%

Total:197

Because Link is just the name given to the hero in the recurring legend. It's not the same character each time and because making a female Link (whilst keeping Princess Zelda) would be interesting as a reversal of the "hero save princess" trope (that TBF, Zelda has been subverting since OoT).

I just think it would make for a good, interesting story, and I can't think of a reason why they wouldn't.

(Pissing off misogynistic fanboys is just another reason to do it in my book)

Heh, what's next? Prince Zelda? Queen of Red Lions?

Would be cool if we could ever see a Queen of Hyrule, we haven't even seen a king in most installments.

Yep.

You clearly didn't read my post. I take offense at the "misogynistic fanboys" remark, it's toxic, baseless, and completely untrue.

I did read your post and my 'misogynistic fanboys' comment wasn't directed at you. I'm sorry for the offence. It was meant at the people who don't want a female Link because they don't want to play as a woman (also the people who want a female link as 'fap material': grow up children)

I get why you want Link to continue to be a male character. But I don't think it's necessary, there's more than one Link and aside from Legend of Zelda/Link's Adventure, Ocarina of Time/Majoras Mask, and Windwaker/Phantom Hourglass, each Link is a new hero.

Why can't one of the Heros of Legend be female? I think it would allow for interesting story telling; especially given that with each new Zelda, Link's personality becomes more and more fully fledged.

I think a female Link who pretends to be male in order to save the world, a la Mulan, would be brilliant. Or a female Link whose village gets destroyed and seeks to return the world to rights. Or a female Link who starts as a servant to Zelda, but becomes a hero in response to Zelda being taken. Or any number of stories.

Legend of Zelda has, since OoT, been a largely feminist game series and none more so than Skyward Sword, after all, Zelda's saved the world well before Link's even discovered his own destiny. Hell, for half the game you're trying to chase her down whilst her and Impa are busy kicking ass. A female Link would cement that theme into Zelda and I think it's about time.

Instead of accusing everyone of not reading your post and taking offense to comments that very clearly aren't directed at you, why don't you explain yourself exactly what we're missing? Almost every Zelda game introduces a new Link in the timeline. What exactly is wrong with a female Link?

Again, no one I know is "demanding" it, but there shouldn't be any real reason to be against it. I don't see why a Zelda game with a female Link should be offensive to anyone.

As a silent protagonist, it would be nice if there was just a simple choice of male or female at the beginning of the game, the characters sexuality would not affect anything.

Would be better than the Homonogous look they seem to be going for recently.

I honestly could not care less if we play as a male or a female.
Zelda has for me always been about exploring the world and
dungeons and solving the puzzles and beating the bosses.

If the story is in support of a female lead character i would not object, if it is a male i do not object.

I just need this game in my veins ASAP too bad it is a 2015 title.

I definitely like some of the idea's you have brought up. I really do, and I apologize for misenterpreting your earliar comments. I understand that each Link is defferent, and completely seperate from the others. I just don't see the point in making him female, when there are already strong females in the games, and he has traditionally been male. Breaking conventions is cool, but Link, in whatever incarnation, has been male and I've grown attached to that character.

Tomb Raider and Lord of the Rings made women with bows/arrows desirable. I didn't think the character in the trailer was female when i saw it last night...but now, I kinda hope it is. Would be awesome.

because lesbians dude!!!! #yuri

jk/

Maybe character is Zelda.Afterall the name of the game is Zelda, right?
