I wished they kept the title of the movie as All you need is Kill. A great movie adaptation from the manga, enjoyed every minute of it.

Bad marketing, I was looking foward to this movie yet didn't even know it was out till 2 days ago
Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.
That's unfortunate. I was hoping at least one Japanese media to Hollywood movie adaption would not suck and do poorly. At least it seems like it is doing one of them.
I think it's plausible to blame this on bad marketing as there really wasn't much, it seems.
However, with the good critic reviews and the good audience reviews this might have legs. Word of mouth is a huge thing in the movie industry and a recent movie got a huge paycheck thanks to word of mouth.

Did he have sex with your mom and not call back? How can you hate somebody you have never even met, on a personal level?
I mean, you have a point and he is crazy, but the guy brings his A game, on most of his movies. I respect and admire him as an actor, not sure about his real persona.
Going to watch it this week - reviews look good. Last mistake i make was godzilla...that was $hite

He didn't say hate. There's a very wide gap between not respecting someone, and hatred. A very, very big gap. It's called sticking to your principles. If you object to someone strongly enough, you can be persuaded not to buy into anything they say or do. It may not amount to much, for one person to simply say 'No Thanks'. But, it matters to that person.
Augen said: If it was Cruise not sure how you explain Oblivion last year doing well. To me most people just do not know about it or what it is about. It is going up against Spider-Man, Godzilla, X-Men and Maleficent which are all established properties. Feels like Elysium situation to me where a big name actor is not enough to carry a film when general audience are not sold on it. Sadly, it being good or not is not the most important aspect. |
Except Oblivion did terrible at the box office. $89 million domestic box office for a $120 million production budget is awful.

How about that. I just remember it doing 30 million and being number one movie, had no legs apparently. Edge of Tomorrow looks set up for a far worse showing and for a more expensive film. Be lucky to break even.
If I were to assign percentages on the reason for this film doing poorly:
80% - Tom Cruise
20% - bad marketing
