Forums - Movies & TV - Edge of Tomorrow has a 90 % on Rottentomatoes.com but still Bombed at the North American Box office. People Hating on him for his Religous beliefs is NOT cool!

I think it has something to do with Tom Cruise. Apart from family entertainment, many Americans are interested in sensationalist celebrities who give off an aura of danger and somewhat craziness. This contrasts with Tom Cruise's personality, who has always portrayed himself as a calm, reasonable man of moral character; hence the lower sales.

A lot of u.s movies 'bomb' in their home country but are still mega worldwide hits. Tom Cruise is as popular around the world as he is unpopular in america. This was just not as well sold to the audience as the other summer blockbusters and alot of peoples hard-earned cash had already been spent. Def a bad release spot. It seems young girls are the go to market nowadays in america if you need an eady hit , maleificent and frozen are ridiculously and undeservably massive there and its a phenomenom catching on round the world.

I watched it and it was a great movie but the reason nobody is going to see it is because of Tom Cruise. Scientology is a cult and nobody wants to watch anyone who has anything to do with it. Travolta's career is dead and Cruise's career is on its way to dying.

Haven't been to the movies in years. I just wait a little bit for the blu-ray release.

If I were to assign percentages on the reason for this film doing poorly:

80% - Tom Cruise
20% - bad marketing

You'd be 100% wrong.

I was walking down along the street and I heard this voice saying, "Good evening, Mr. Dowd." Well, I turned around and here was this big six-foot rabbit leaning up against a lamp-post. Well, I thought nothing of that because when you've lived in a town as long as I've lived in this one, you get used to the fact that everybody knows your name.

im gonna watch it, its based on a manga (that if im not wrong) is called "All you need is Kill"... i think it lacked more marketing.

Yeah, I probably underestimated the Cruise effect.  Let say 90-10.

Going to movie theaters is for plebs.

A warrior keeps death on the mind from the moment of their first breath to the moment of their last.

When I first saw the trailer, I thought it was going to end up being underwhelming like Oblivion, so I wrote it off and never paid attention to it. Fast forward to two days ago, I started seeing the TV adverts for it with the typical critics praising the film. I looked at rottentomatoes/IMDB and was suprised at the positive reviews. Will definitely check it out now.

I think the reasons it bombed were because there was too much competition, and the novel its based on isn't that well known (in the US at least). The movies that beat Edge of Tomorrow have a more popular source material: popular book & cartoon.
