Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Disgusted with the loss of Innovation (Kinect)? (/rant)

Was Kinect really innovative?

You can't force people into a specific way of gaming. Freedom is important and doing well in an environment where people actually want your product, that's innovation. If you have to force people to buy your add-on, then it's terrible and not innovative.

That said I'm looking forward to the games we'll see on XB1 in the future.

----

P.S. Ryse was suppose to only use Kinect controls and look at how crappy it turned out. Meanwhile Smash Bros for Wii plays better with traditional gamecube controllers.

Yes, Kinect was the most innovated thing to happen to computers since the mouse came out.  Name one other thing that has been innovative?  (Touch screens were out in the 70s.)

Ryse is a fun game.  It does seemed rushed, but a good game none the less.

There are plenty of fun games for the Kinect on the 360.

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

You know they arent getting rid of kinect eright? They just arent forcing people that dont want it to buy it... I dont see what the problem is...

Because it will lose development support because not everyone will have one.

Without Kinect one might as well just stay with a PC.  Why even bother with consoles?

While it’s true that half of all Xbox 360’s have been sold with Kinect since it came out in 2010.  And 80%, according to Microsoft, of Xbox One users use their Kinect daily.  So it is established that even the original Kinect is very popular. I think it will be a small minority that don’t get Kinect.

But all of gaming will suffer because of those people.

Microsoft had plenty of time to prove its worth, but they never did. Yeah some party games were kind of fun, but they all got old very quickly.

It never had development support.

Consoles are cheaper and you know your games will run on the system. No need to upgrade parts. Friends play on consoles.

If 80% of people use Kinect daily then the small minority will hurt gaming because of the minority? That doesn't make sense. Catering to the minority means less money to be made than catering to the majority (80%).

Yes that was "Innovation"...

Microsoft wasnt the first to bring a proper camera recognition device to gaming, Sony was. Neither the Move nor the Kinect are needed. They are optional devices that should be allowed be used if the people want them. If Microsoft wants people to use the Kinect, maybe they should (themselves) make compelling games and stop waiting for third party to prove the value of the product for them. This has always been Microsofts problem. They try to get people to believe in things that dont exist. They create hype where there is none.

Please, let's not give Sony credit for something it doesn't deserve.  Capture devices on consoles were out years before Sony even came out with the original Play Station.

The move isn’t a bad device. It’s just a HD Wii.

There is a difference between innovation and ‘things that do not exist.’ There are many good Kinect Games for the Xbox 360.  They just didn’t bring enough out on the Xbox One.  On that I agree they failed at doing.

Then again, perhaps this was Don’s plan all along? (Thus the birth of a conspiracy!)

But lets give credit to Kinect as the most innovative thing to happen to computers since the mouse, nice logic. Gamers don't like kinect, it's not the end of the world. This type of stuff is best for casual players who want motion gaming.

You cater to your weakest link.  Now every game etc will HAVE to run without Kinect except obviously a full Kinect game.

Many people didn't think they wanted Kinect till they had it and used it. Now they can get an X1 without Kinect and all of use with it will lose support because of the small minority that mostly didn't want an Xbox anyway, but complained.

It's like in elementary school when the whole class gets punished because of a few loud mouths.

What if Xbox had drop high speed internet connection requirement and went with a modem on the original Xbox?  Few households had a high speed connection in 2001, yet it help revolutionize online gaming.

I think the hurdle here is that it costs money to explore into new ideas... companies don't want to lose money that's for sure and gamers don't want to lose money either. Unless a dev studio is dedicated into finding those innovations no one is going to try or will succeed right away.

what did they even put out for it? Another sports minigame compilation? INNOVATIVE!!!! i like those games but come on. They want to stay competitive sacrifices had to be made, it is what it is. I commend MS for being smart and doing what they needed to do. Im actually impressed they didnt wait till the holiday season, they really dotn want to lose US. Honestly i didnt think they would put out much games for it anway.

I thought this was the best day in gen 8 so far. It'll lead to higher sales for XB1, and an increase in the generation's sales overall which is good for the industry. More people will enjoy XB1 thanks to this.

The Kinect will always be an option. People will get an XB1 for christmas and a Kinect for their birthday. If it is good for gaming, it will sell. If you think it won't sell itself with it's games and features it's an admittance Kinect doesn't belong with the console.  How can you think Kinect is good and yet show complete lack faith in it selling itself?

I think that we'll see Kinect sold for maybe $150 with a bundled game, and it'll have steady sales.
