Forums - Gaming Discussion - Titanfall exclusivity proved to be (quite) pointless

I must say that I think making Titanfall an Xbox One exclusive didn't do much good. It didn't boost the XOne sales that much and this should've had the freedom to be on PS4 as well. Microsoft probably had to pay a lot to keep it exclusive but in the end it proved to be not worth the effort. I personally also hate the way Microsoft seems to think that by just making something exclusive everyone will buy an XOne (that's at least what I seem to get out of their behaviour towards Titanfall), but that's a different discussion.

I'm not sure if I would say it was pointless, but I will say that I was very surprised when I saw the X1 didn't outsell the PS4 in March NPD. I thought it was an easy win for the X1.

It was that or let the game die, what would you prefer?

Or EA could've actually used their money.

LOL, Nintendo could've bought it like they did Bayonetta 2.

Whats the obsession with Titanfall hate?

Well just to point... Titanfall is not exclusive but I understand your point.

In a business term it was not what MS expected for sure... it didn't moved the hardware they expected... so after the launch the deals with the TF bundles started to happen... and I guess retail expected more sales too because they ordered too much units and now they are starting to sell the game at less than $40.

So in a business views it didn't worked for MS, retails and EA/Respawn.

But for a gamer views it was the only way to the game happened because EA didn't want to fund the game and Respawn was dead in terms of money.... so MS fonded the game and it happened.

And for gamers it worked because now Respawn have money to create the sequel for all platforms.

So I think MS did a good thing for all gamers.

That would mean that almost every exclusive is pointless. It's not as if games from own first party studios don't cost a lot and they also barely increase console sales.

It's the amount of exclusives that counts. If you would think “this game won't sell hundred thousands of consoles so that we won't invest money in the game at all“.

Also not sure if you didn't read last week about Titanfall and why it is exclusive...

It's only pointless to the playstation fans. not to Ms fans....also.. MS saved titanfall.. sony wanted titanfall vita lmao

Praise the One.

It's an fps, it's on the wrong console, it got hype. This, augmented with general MS hate which is famous since $ever pretty much sums it up.
