Forums - Gaming Discussion - When if ever do you find it okay to start pirating and emulating a game?

Tagged games:

I still have a lot of older original games, N64, ps1, saturn, 3do, gamecube, original xbox, dreamcast but I also emulate the same systems. I've been mucking about with dolphin recently but most of the games I already own that I'm emulating. Most being the key word. I did download starfox assault which I've never owned but was curious about. There is no new market for Gamecube games now its all pre-owned. However Nintendo may well start selling gamecube games on the wii u e shop if they haven't already.

I personally would rather own a physical game and once bought I feel that entitles me to download an iso of the same game for emulators etc.

Maybe I'll be sued or something for saying this, but I see nothing wrong with pirating games. It's economically. Spending 60$ for a 6 hour game just seems like a waste to me. Since I was born in a poor upbringing, I learned these at an early age. Yeah, I sound like a Anarchist.

I make bad threads.

SSB really went downhill after Melee....

If I already own the game.

I've bought Super Mario 64 on three separate occasions for three separate systems. If I want to also play it on my computer, Nintendo shouldn't stop me.

Nothing wrong? that is taking it too far. I'm sure if you worked for many months on some project and at the end they said no payment for you, you wouldn't be happy about it. Programmers, graphic artists etc are people too, families to bring up etc. No reaon to pirate anyway if value if critical to your gaming, buy discounted, buy pre-owned (ok the money doesn't directly go back to publishers but the person who traded in the game is likely to fund new purchases wth the money from selling his old games) or game on a format that has cheap games. Amazing offers on steam, so get a gaming pc. Gaming has to be one of the best sources of entertainment when it comes to value. I've got about 180 games on steam and probably paid less than a £1 a game thanks to steam charity bundles and other offers. Yes I may not have all the latest games on PC but I d have a surprising amount that have been heavily discounted.

If I already own a physical copy of a game and the appropriate system, I see little to no issue with "pirating" it. Hence, that "Let's Play Pokemon" thread I did on this website back in 2012.

As for games I don't own... I've done this once. The game in question was never released in my neck of the world, and I mailed the developers some money upon downloading it.

Love and tolerate.

I only pirate games I wouldn't have bought anyway. Emulation is mostly for keeping my older games home.

- If it's not available in my region. (Tales of the Abyss PS2)
- If it's ridiculously expensive. (Panzer Dragoon Saga)
- If I already own it on another platform. (Persona 3 FES)

If the game meets any of those criteria, I'll download it guilt free. There are times that I download games that don't meet those criteria. I downloaded FFXII even though I don't own it. I just wanted to try the game and I thought it would be too inconvenient to get my PS2 out again. I'll happily a HD version if they release it.

When the hardware is no longer supported by the manufacturer. To a lesser degree, when a game goes out of print and the publisher ceases to support it.

That's probably not the answer freeloaders want to hear.

Game collectors and retro gamers will want the original packages anyway and will hunt down whatever old hardware or game copies they have to because they want them even if they never play them again, so retail availability is not really an issue.

But for those who just want free entertainment, stop trying to justify your actions or rationalize when it's okay to pirate and just do it. Don't rationalize. Just admit you want something for nothing and you'll probably feel a lot better about it if you choose to make piracy an ethical decision.

When I feel like it lol I don't care. I don't do it, but I'm not above it.

Never. Though there might be a gray zone if you already own the game.

Not that anything would keep me from it though.
