I'm a feminist. My sister is a feminist. My fiancee is a feminist. It doesn't mean man-hating and militant. It just means being for women. And it's important in a civilization that, since its inception, has, more often than not, subordinated women

Did anyone read this?  He's being enslaved by women!

Some things i agree with and other i dont.  Yes gaming does over sexualize things but this isnt a gaming problem at all.  Its a people problem with both men and women. Sex sells.  I also want to point out to many people getting offended shouldnt be.  Women does have it more unfair than men as women are naturally viewed by their beauty so they have to take care of themselves more.  But at the same time, and ive had this conversation with men and women friends before, a lot of the people complaining are lazy and just dont take care of themselves.  Also women care about looks as well, and we can say no they dont but they do.  Maybe not as much as men care but they do care.  And for guys to look incredibly good, they have to put a shit ton of work into it. Are we going to call that sexist?  No, they just try harder to look good is all.  And that is one problem with this whole jelousy thing.  A lot of people look good simplay because they put in the work to look good, while others dont look good because theyre lazy, over eat, and sit around.  THough in some cases you are just born a certain way, that isnt the case for a lot of people.  Lets just look at the overweight issues world wide and you can see that yourself.

Now for gaming.  First off guys are usually designed to look good as well and instead of posting picture after picture we know this to be true.  2nd off again, women care for looks too, look at all the hollywood crushes from girls.  Or how about watching American Idol where the votes are for the cutest boy rather than the most talented singer.  Oh and dont even get me started on twilight with very possibly the worst actor ive ever seen in Taylor Lautner.  Lets act horrible the entire movie and then take off my shirt.

Now as i said there is some things that is unfair for women and their is many gender roles that can be overly annoying.  I will speak out about them and have done so in tha past by making threads about them.  ANd yes sex symbols on tv like boobs being shown but not dicks can be unfair.  But then again girls care about abs and chests which are shown on tv, and just like dicks arent shown on tv, vaginas arent really either.  Its just one of those things that is crossing the line i suppose.  Adding to that i really dont see how a dick can  be appealing to a guy or woman.  Maybe it feels pleasurable but theyre ugly and all its going to do is scare kids.

Anyways i could rant for another 12 paragraphs but ill stop here

ok let a female play ssm for the first time... guess who would she pick first... i bet around 50% of the time it would be samus, zelda, peach or uhm kirby and pikachu.

I'm not sure if I understand the problem here... Is it that Samus is portrayed as an attractive female?
If that is the case does that mean less attractive females are viewed as being more appropriate? Wouldn't that be discriminatory against attractive females?

The thing is even with Mai and ivy I've actually seem women with similar proportions who dressed provocatively... Aren't these women being discriminated against?

Anyway with regards to Mai and ivy for example it's weird that it's not mentioned that their male counterparts from their gains are sexualised as well with beefy muscled bodies but so what? Again men exist that are proportioned similarly

I suppose the main issue here is that as humans we like to look at attractive people this is why generally models and actors and actresses are attractive

Edit: but is it a bad thing to prefer looking at attractive women or men?

I'll just leave these endings from Metroid Fusion here:

I think we need a woman's opinion on this matter instead of this Angelo guy.

*checks* Hey I'm one of those things!

Honestly, I have taken issue with the portrayal of women in video games from time to time, but more so with the knee-jerk reactions, like the ones seen here. Even if you don't agree with what's said, dissmissing it as 'feminazis being feminazis' or throwing up strawman arguments just makes things worse, and makes the industry seem even more hostile. These things are worthy of discussion, but unfortunately the immediate reaction from both sides is to go on the defense and bicker and insult each other.

A couple of points I'd like to bring up. Note that these are just my opinions and my word is not law, nor do I think it's even entirely correct. Forgive me if I take an agressive tone, because that is not my intent.

Sexuality =/= sexism =/= even necessarily 'sexualization' (in my opinion). Sexism is just plain bad, but it's a value, or an attitude. A game itself can reflect sexist values, but I'm not sure if you could ever say a game itself is sexist, since it's an object, not a thinking feeling creature. It's also a little hard to define, so I'll leave that alone since I don't think I could fairly discuss it, so I'll move on.

I take no issues with the likes of Bayonetta (in fact, I'll be getting the sequel for Wii U day one) because that is a fundamental part of her character and she owns it. I take issue with someone like Ivy because she is designed that way purely to tittilate. To me, Bayo is sexual, Ivy is sexualized. One is projecting, and one is being projected onto. That said, it's 99.99% about context. I do not begrudge anyone for playing DoA Extreme Beach Volleyball. Games like that have a purpose and a place and I'm GLAD they're allowed exist like anything else. With some characters, however, there's no reason in the context of the game and setting and it just makes things awkward when I'm playing with someone and they go through the character select screen and land on her then give me an uncomfortable look......

I'm also displeased with the constant push for overly macho tough guys/dashing white brunette male protagonists as well. Not necessarily because I find it offensive, mind you, but because I feel like it's too 'safe' and the industry is doing itself a disservice by reusing the same archetypes (male and female both) over and over because they're tried and true and garunteed to appeal. Part of that I blame on the nature of the AAA industry, but that's beside the point. For every nontypical protagonist, there's dozens of bland male protagonist and bland female fanservice character. We deserve better, and we should demand better, especially if we want our industry to be taken seriously.

Anyway, that's sorta related to another thing I want to say; Yes, people can also sexualize men. I hear this argument/excuse a lot. Pointing that out does not suddenly make it okay for either side. That's schoolyard logic and we should all be past that. But, again, context matters (okay, I just want my otome VNs. We all have our vices!).

....

Oh, right. Zero Suit. Silly but not offensive. No bounty hunter in her right mind would wear heels to a brawl. I can barely get up the stairs in them. To me, the impracticality of the design bugs me more than any notion of 'sexism'. Even her walk just FEELS uncomfortable to watch.

Sorry if my post seems a little disjointed and haphazard, but I'm too lazy to edit it any further.

My serious thought is that the heels as part of the design are almost an effort at a joke on Sakurai's part: he knew about the uproar over the heels in the Other M design, so he made a Smash design that emphasized the heels even further, but made them useful (in the form of jet-boosts) giving the character a much needed buff and "empowering" her (literally!) through the use of exaggerated heels.

Snake comes from M-rated games too. They'd just have to keep the stripping down to tasteful levels and cut her cursing.

the sex part is exactly what I meant they have to be carefull. it's not hard for snake to forgo violence but bayonetta is defined by her oversexualism.
