Forums - Gaming Discussion - Cheat Code Central: "Zero Suit Samus’s New Design is Sexist is here's why"

Tagged games:

"That, my friends, is why the design is sexist. It’s designed specifically to appeal to males..."

Uhm, what about lesbians?

All I see is another pretentious white knight and obvious clickbait article.

Of course it's sexist. Most of the gaming industry is sexist.  It's not exactly surprising considering that most of it's output is aimed at 16 yo boys.

And who says that a game developer has to think about all kind of humans (kids, woman, men, adults and whatever...) if they work on a game? If they want to make a game made to appeal to guys especially for a specific age then it should be their good right. Their game doesn't have to appeal to 5-80 years old male and female persons.

And just look at all these guys with huge muscles in Gears of War, I really miss a fat guy and think it is so sexist because it appeals especially to people who like characters with big muscles

While I disagree with the author of the original article -- the design is hypersexualized, not necessarily sexist -- I'm disappointed that many here are so quick to just dismiss the argument as the ramblings of an idiot or feminist, or feminist idiot.

I'm a feminist. My sister is a feminist. My fiancee is a feminist. It doesn't mean man-hating and militant. It just means being for women. And it's important in a civilization that, since its inception, has, more often than not, subordinated women.

So I urge everyone to at least contemplate articles like the one above before disregarding it as feminist propaganda, and to put yourselves into the shoes, or, in this case, rocket boots, of people who have experienced the world in a far different way from your own.

Sadly people only get to see the extremists, especially when it comes to the topic of videogames.

I did dismiss this article as the ramblings of an idiot though. Not because it had a feminist agenda, but because of its content and double standards.

3. The vast majority of foot fetishist (Which there's a hella lot of them) like high heels.

Guess that puts me in the minority. As a foot fetishist, high heels do nothing for me.

Same here. I find high heels fairly annoying and even a bit sick, since you trade musculoskeletal health for a supposed sexual appeal. It's not too different from foot binding in this regard.

So yeah, that's my only complain about Samus' new zero suit. No one should care whether she's looking sexy or not. But that specific little thing is apologetics to something unhealthy.

Besides, who on her right mind would wear one of those in a battle? Yeah, it's a Nintendo game, but in the past we've ben graced with the Bayonetta girl and Miranda Lawson wearing those. Blergh.

Yes, they are sexualized (especially Bayonetta), but they're powerful and badass characters.

It would be sexist if they are weak and helpless because they are female. That would be problematic.

So, Raiden from Rising is made specifically to appeal to males? :3

You know it, look at this sexy beast... and explain to me why he had heels on?? O_O I still dont understand

What a drama. heels aren't sexualized, they aren't even made for human use. and if her boobs are bigger, it certainly takes a good amount of dedication to notice.

Now a lot of people try to defend this. Many say, “I don’t really care either way if she has rocket heels or not, she looks awesome.” Well, congratulations to you, sir. If that is true, then you are not sexist, and no one was calling you sexist in the first place, but good on you. However, your personal attitudes toward the character does not change the fact that her character design, along with the guys at Bandai Namco and Nintendo that created it, are sexist.

Many people say, “but they are rocket heels! They are different from normal heels.” Yes, but they still LOOK like normal heels. Heels are a sexual object due to their appearance, and so rocket or no, they still are sexual.

I'v Actually got to agree here, while here boobs/waist aren't really that bad, the heels are going too far.  Makes here look more like a hooker than a wariour.

Pics like these doesn't help

Yes Kirby.. look at them... look at both of them!
