I mean, does the X1 really need to win NPD? It's doing good in America and that's all that counts.

These types of posts are hilarious .All last gen people said ps3 was a failure for losing marketshare. Now losing it in your best territory  is fine

Your saying this as if I'm an Xbox fanboy? But that's besides the point. if I was on this site back then, I would've said the same thing about the PS3. I could care less for what sales better, as long as both consoles are selling well.

The situation is significantly more dire this time than the PS3's poor position last time.

Microsoft really fumbled the 360 internationally with the relatively small number of exclusives and poor marketing. It performed magnificently in the US and to large extent the UK, but Europe was not so great. Halo/Gears are more western in appeal. So PS3 had the advantage of getting a lot of the territories that Microsoft wasn't able to sew up.

This time around? They look to be on track to losing even in their previous strongholds, and getting outright blown away outside of US/UK. Numbers in some countries on an average week such as France and Germany are as bad as FIVE to ONE.

Further, if trends continue (and with more multiplats coming that will more likely than not look worse on the XB1) with players tending to want to buy the console that their friends already own for MP, they could be behind by 2 to 1 by the end of THIS year globally. Barring a miracle, it will be even worse through the end of 2015.

Financially that makes profitability on the XB1 platform much harder. It makes it less likely to get 3rd party exclusivity, because paying for that will get out of control pretty quickly. It will go like this :

Microsoft "Hey, company X, we want your new game to be only on the XB1"

Company X "Okay, well you have 9 million consoles sold, and your competitor has 18.5 million sold, so based on our market research, you will have to compensate us for the calculated attach rate for our title on that system"

Microsoft "How much is that?"

Company X "Well, we calculate that this huge title could sell 4 million copies on the PS4, and you will have to pay us $30 per potential lost sale"

Microsoft "A HUNDRED AND TWENTY MILLION DOLLARS? Okay, how about some exclusive DLC?"

Company X "Sure"

Nintendo knows how to play the 'extra' console game historically, and make money. Microsoft simply has no idea.

Everything in this discussion could be answer if this simple statment:

XOne is 25% more expensive than the PS4 and its selling 20% less units on the USA.

-------------------------------

But then people will call out the bundle and the limited time disconts... well so be it.

The fact is that as long as the Xone is more expensive than the competition it won´t outsell then, unless there are many significant advantages to do so.

However, Sony can´t just seat on the montain of PS4 sold and do nothing to improve the system and ad features to the console.

PS3 has never ever been cheaper than Xbox 360, yet PS3 outsold 360, even with the year head start. Your argument is invalid.

Not in the USA.

In the last, let´s say, 3 years the 360 outsould the PS3 in every but one month in the USA, September last year with the GTA V bundle and cross marketing.

Besides, the PS3 had many advantages over the 360... it has BluRay disc, Multplay was free and later had free games with PSN+...

My argument is rock solid.

So almost 1 million consoles are still unsold? Xbox One needs to ditch kinect fast. As for PS4 it is still going strong.

Titanfall > 1 million
Infamous:SS < 500k
Yoshi New Island < 160k
South Park < 440k
Dark Souls 2 < 350k

Edit:

Metal Gear Solid 5 demo <280k

BTW this does include bundles, so Titanfall slightly undertracked and Infamous slightly overtracked.

A Developer don´t get $30 for each game sale... nor the Publisher (about $20 at most).

Besides, with the PS3 80mi user base and 7 years in the market, how many title sold more than 4mi on it?

And I can ensure that 90% of those 4mi+ games are either COD, GTA, FIFA, Battlefield or Assassins Creed, in other words: games that will be always multiplat.

Not in business its not. All that matters in business is if you are profiting with a product. Ones that do are kept, ones that don't profit are usually cut.

I'm not saying MS is all sunshine and rainbows right now. But the console just sold 311k units in March.  That isn't bad by ANY standard. Obviously it took a lot to get them there and I think there is certainly work to be done at MS studios but reading some of the posts on GAF and here are boarderline shocking.  It really goes to show you how little actual analysis there is in the current gaming community on the internet and how much is posted / written in blind emotion / opinions.

It is for them though, MS does not settle for anything less.  360 was a step towards market dommianance and X1 pissed it all away.

Its actually quite awefull by any standart, they game away a brand new game in an attempt to beat the PS4.  And they failed, that coupled with the unoffical price cuts the heavy marketing.  March was a massive failure given all they did,  while all sony had to do is ship some more consoles.

MS went all out and failed, its not good.  And its gonna get much worse.

Funny.

Wii + Wii U < 100k -__-

These numbers were unreal a few years ago. Sony really did a great job. Kudos.

No Wii U numbers yet?
