Forums - Gaming Discussion - The Xbox One is fighting back

It's clear that they are still ok with getting outsold worldwide as long as they keep things close in their 2 main markets. Otherwise we'd have seen a bigger price drop. The $50 drop and bundled game are great for new buyers, but the bottom line is price is the main factor in the sales difference and they are still the most expensive console.

The forecast for Xbox after E3 will be mighty good.

They should at least address the backlash from last years console reveal and drm rubbish. I think if they legit admitted that they fucked up pretty badly before talking about any new ideas then maybe a few people could forgive the last years Reveal and E3 fallout. I'm personally far too wary of it being swept under the carpet without a word, doesn't take much to lift a carpet lol.

i mean you would swear microsoft said they were going to take their cat and cook it in a pot.  all of these steam owning gamers that cant sell trade or give away their games are mad at microsoft for doing the same thing to make their life easier god forbid.  what the hell is wrong with gamers today?  wah wah wah... bu but i cant sell my games or give them away. wah wah im on the internet 24/7 bu but what if it goes down when im playing my game.

i couldve sold drm better than microsoft.  only thing they fuck up on was the messaging.

Phil Spencer has talked about it already, and on numerous occasions.  Yesterday was just one example

Anyone saying that Microsoft is going to be happy with only selling well in the USA and the UK doesn't seem to know Microsoft at all. When has Microsoft ever been content with losing market-share or not being able to extend the influence of their brand? I don't believe that for one second, or else they wouldn't still be fighting in Japan and they wouldn't haven't given away FIFA for free in much of Europe. I assure you, they aren't high-fiving one another because they won a few weeks on the US and UK charts. Microsoft has never had that kind of low-scale ambition.

They've finally figured out some things from a PR perspective, though, and they're spending a lot of money, so they'll definitely put up a fight. They made a lot of mistakes, certainly, but gamers have forgiven all of the big three in the past for worse.

I'll say right now, however, that I don't believe Microsoft is changing plans much EXCEPT from a PR perspective. They were already planning to make a bunch of new games, for example. The only difference now is that they're not taking gamer interest for granted while they reach for other markets.

Fighting back is what they've been doing all these months >.

...Let the Sony Domination continue with the PS4...

I do kinda agree with your 2nd paragraph that nelson fucked up one thing royally at the last E3, someone from the press asked him if the X1's way of doing things was going to be similar to steams.... and he got a bit pissy and said it was completely different. People love steam, being called similar to it was a fucking great thing, he shoulda started humping the person saying it, not deny the similarities.

As for your first paragraph.... What?

- 3rd party: mostly true. Graphically better games for less money, especially. Mixed argument

- indies? Minecraft is a big exception, you know that. Masses are not buying PS4 for indies.

- Exclusives, well... Opinions over opinions, in my opinion :) By now no game would make me buy a next-gen system. My big hope, DriveClub, still isn't released.

Overall you can't deny that the lower price and the media are a *big* argument for sales.

I'm not denying but if it was just price and media Wii U was a success but Wii U lacked what make PS4 good... games.

PS4 will basically always have the multiplat advantage. Even if the XB1 gets permanently price cut to below 400$ the fact that it has better hardware and that the architectures are very similar to PCs, gives it an advantage. The only way XB1 can truly compete is marketing, sales, and exclusives which was PS3's Modus Operandi last Gen.

Furthermore, PS4 will become cheaper earlier then XB1 in terms of manufacturing costs because factories to manufacture its RAM are being built.

Marketing and Sales even are MS' strong suits, but Sony has the advantage of Exclusives as well, which MS is scrambling to match since they realized that they lost the 360's advantages.

PS4 like PS3 seems to have slow start, but PS4 is bolstering its catalog with indies, something the PS3 didn't do until the end of the gen. If Xbox does not invest in development, (ID@XBOX and buying Exclusives) doesn't count, then once PS4 gets its exclusives, XB1 will be completely relegated as an expensive media machine that requires XBL to work.
Exclusive+Multiplats+Indies is a total game advantage, even the ps2 didn't have indies.

Betting on the casuals was a mistake, its like chasing a rainbow.
