Forums - Gaming Discussion - Android rated as most stable OS.

This is a joke, right?! From what I last read, a large portion of Android apps are infected with some malware that was spying on people without their knowledge. You call this a stable OS? The proof that it is actually the complete opposite is right under your eyes… major apps launched these days all go for iOS. An Android version always comes later if there is any demand for it!

Personally I've had no problem with Android. And I don't believe the whole spying thing either.

Lots of apps say that though, check out the Facebook App's terms and conditions (for iOS and Android AFAIK) for example.

At any rate, I prefer Android to iOS, though I like both so you can't really go wrong.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

The problem with all the 3 Android devices I've owned is that they started off stable but gradually deteriorated into frequent crashing, freeze-ups, spontaneous reboots and all manner of assorted weirdness. No idea why that happens but I know other Android owners who have described the same. For a study like this to catch that, it would have to track the device over very long periods of time and I'm betting this study doesn't do that. By comparison, all the iOS devices I've owned have been solid.

Apps with malware has nothing to do with the stability of an OS.

Android is better than WP8 and iOS because it's open source, but better still would be a true Linux phone, not a Googlelinux. Perhaps Tizen is the next stepping stone for open source OS, but it's still being controlled by a corporate so it's not that much of an improvement. But still I'm happy for an open source OS to be dominant and I hope one day that translates to PC being dominated by open source OSs. Perhaps the Steam Machine will help drive this, because so many more games will have a Linux version.

Depends. If you knew all about it, you wouldn't ignore the negative apects of Open Source. Sounds like a fanboy post.

It's all statistics - some independent organisations should research and create statistics about how stats actually influence people. Android is supposed to be faster (although that's a hardware thing as well), most stable now (although experience tells different things and the numbers are taken out of context), smoothest user interaction/experience (like anybody can judge taste/UI approach of everyone), and even the best over time (although lots of articles are about how it's getting lots of data trash and slows itself over time like Windows).

Can't companies just go by success? Sure, the most successful may not be the "best" but it is what people like to use most. The "best" PC isn't used by lots of people, the "best" car is probably one that's only been built 10 times, etc. so what.

And yeah, I use Win8, iOS and Android on mobile devices and I can decide myself which suits ME better and which device should get which OS.

With Open Source Bugs and stuff like that is fixed within minutes after someone finds it. Closed source takes forever - especially with Smartphones. You wait months and months until you get an update which may or may not resolve some issues.

Granted, very few people use Android that way and the systems of manufacturers like Sony, Samsung etc. also don't get updates for quite a while. But the fact remains that Open Source is better than closed source in many ways. You at least haave the option to get yourself some other Android on your phone if you wish to and invest some time. Closed source software my have some things going for it, but not enough to outweigh everything else imo.

I have the newest Android and it has crashed (touchwiz i guess) a couple of times during these 5 months. Still better than my previous WP 7.8 which was crashing all the time after 2 years of use. Even that bad that I could not use the phone for over 10 minutes when the crash happened.

Yep.. I saw that too and it goes against people general impressions. There's a little bit of criticism against Android, but it's getting better... it is usually tough to get rid of bad reputation. Same thing happens with Windows.

One issue is the quality of components. iPhone is a high-end device with high-end components. A Moto G has a quad-core processor that would simply be crushed by any high-end dual core model (like the BB Z10), specially with a crappy GPU. Bad quality flash memory is a big issue in low to mid-end devices that impact the performance.
