Forums - Sales Discussion - Is XB1 significantly overtracked in US?

I was calculating the year to date sales figures for US (and all other regions) and I found out that the VGChartz data reveals the XB1 USA as follows...

XB1 Cumulatve sales end of 2013 : 1 844 460

XB1 Cumulative sales by 1 Feb 2014 :  2 126 370

XB1 January 2014 Sales : 281 910

PS4 January 2014 Sales  : 371 429

The NPD January sales data reveals 143K XB1 sold in January, (where PS4 must nearly double the XB1 sales) which seems to significantly contradict the figures above. Even if the number of weeks included may be 5 instead of 4, this should not change the sales ratio as much. So XB1 is most likely overtracked.

Playstation 5 vs XBox Series Market Share Estimates

Regional Analysis  (only MS and Sony Consoles)
Europe     => XB1 : 23-24 % vs PS4 : 76-77%
N. America => XB1 :  49-52% vs PS4 : 48-51%
Global     => XB1 :  32-34% vs PS4 : 66-68%

The first week of january was counted towards December's NPD figures and VGC has XBO selling 166K that week (there was a huge drop across the board the next week)

That is likely why your calculations are off

no

NPD have the Xbox One at ~1.95 Million as of the end of Jan.

Considering that VGC estimations put the Xbox One at ~2.12 Million, that gives us ~170k left over, which is within a 10% range of accuracy.

You could argue its overtracked, but I wouldnt say significantly. Within 10% is good for short term figures.

That said though, January is looking to be skewing that figure a whole lot and an adjustment down the road is likely.

VGC has XOne's 2013 (US) over tracked by 125k, plus ~43k over tracked in January.

NOV 2013: NPD - 909K VGC - 969K

DEC 2013: NPD - 908K VGC - 973K

TOTAL 2013: NPD - 1817K VGC - 1942K [125K OVER TRACKED]

JAN 2014: NPD - 141K VGC - 184K

Won bet with t3mporary_126 - I correctly predicted that the Wii U's LTD at the end of 2014 would be closer to 9 million than 10 million. http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/post.php?id=6673287

Definitely, some things just don't add up in VGChartz statistics

There is no chance that the XBO sold 166K in the first week of January in the US.

No chance? really? It was coming off a Holiday Season. I see it possible.

Praise the One.

It might be a little overtracked, but its a good enough estimate.
I thought this was an Ehtomaz thread. He always claims its overtracked.

I think it is, hence why I'm leaving my sig as is until adjustments come in. For US Jan the XBONE is still about 40k ahead of the 145k NPD figure. They were overtracking by 80k and just averaged the numbers.
