Forums - Sales Discussion - Japan Sales week 51 (Dec 16 - Dec 22)

To quote myself from a previous week:

I predict the following WiiU sales moving forward:

Week ending dec 8: 40 000 (real numbers ended up at 46000-48000)

Week ending dec 15: 65 000 (real numbers ended up at 70000-75000)

Week ending dec 22: 90 000 (real numbers ended up between 110 000-120 000)

Week ending dec 29: 60 000

Week ending jan 05: 80 000

Looking at how WiiU sales are trending, expect the system to sell more than 100 000 next week. (week ending dec 22)

Sales are decent this week as well but will most likely be down next week, and up the following week.

3DS is definitely beginning its decline though. Not beating last year's LTD with this year's line up is rather surprising, and there's hardly anything big for 2014 so far.

There's a couple big games coming out next year so wat are you talking about?. Nothing as big as pokemon/MH but there are still big games that'll sell 200k+ easily! Also this time last year we didn't know alot of games that come out intill much later (Ex: PokemonXY/Mario Luigi/ etc)

LoZ (this coming out tomorrow but sales will mostly be in 2014) and PDZ with pokemon XY will keep 2014 high in the First Quarter. Also 2DS hadnt released yet there.

As of now big games we now of are Kirby TD, Mario Party, Mario Golf, BD2, Yoshi's New Island, Game Center CX, Fossil Fighters 2, Dragon Quest terry  2, Super Smash Bros for 3DS, Theatrythym FF, Persona Q, and alot more.

Can 200K games, which are mostly rehashes and sequels, move many systems at this point?

You said there are hardly  no big games coming in 2014 for 3DS... I give you a list. Then you  call them (some) rehashes... then ask me if they can move systems. Yes they can. unless you think 3DS wont sell anymore units??? Do you only have negative things to say about Nintendo these days -_-

EDIT: You mention rehashes and sequels yet Vita has SS+PS coming out next year as well as GR2? Yeaaaaaaahhhh? Imo im cool with GR2 as that franchise deserves to become big. Its just funny how in a few months you'll cheer for them but then wen it comes to nintendo they are the ones who rehash games. Can you name me some rehashes pls?

Good numbers for Wii U. Of course, I definitely see it dropping next year. Not under 10K, like this year, but ~20K. Without the holiday boost, and another gaming drought coming next year, there's nothing to keep it higher. At least, not until Nintendo releases some of their larger titles, probably around late 2014. We'll have to see how well PS4 does come Feb, as that might take some of the wind out of Wii U' s sails/sales, even during the holidays.

WiiU has 2 major titles coming soon. DK in Feb and MK in March/Apr. But i do hope they spread everything out. There are titles that can be released in First half of 2014. Nintendo wont be that stupid to do a drought again like god awful last year!

What gaming drought ? The system has by far the best line up of games for 2014. Nintendo is setting up at least 1 major release every two months - in 2013 they went like 8 months without releasing a single one. 20~k sounds like a good prediction for me, but I just wanted to point that out.

In the first few months of the year Japan will see Wii Fit U (retail), Donkey Kong Country, Mario Kart and I'm sure atleast one from the group of previously annouced games will be added to that list. 2014 is nothing like 2013 for the Wii U

Nice for the WiiU, it's benefiting very much from this christmas !!
The Vita is doing great too, i can see it doing 100k+ next week "crossing fingers"
Everything else is pretty much the same.

Its that Hyrule Warriors bump.

I don't think people a few weeks ago would have predicted anything like 100k for Wii U...in Japan only. It really must be Christmas!

Nah, let's hope this maintains into next year, yes?

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

It's a fairly typical holiday boost for Nintendo. It will be back down to sub 20k by mid/late January for Wii U.

3DS I think is somewhat disappointing for Nintendo, now about 500k down year over year in Japan, that may effectively cancel out any gains they made in North America year over year even with MH4 + Pokemon.
