Well i hope you kids didn't get a ps3 bundle with gt5 or that GT5 academy edition which was on sale the last few weeks for christmas

You still have months to play it online + the online is the least of the game's draws.

The seasonal events which depent on the online mode are a huge chunk of the game plus those are the easiest way to make quick cash.

Will they disappear as well though? Are DLC packs removed as well when the servers shut down? Seasonal events are no data at all, no more updates or online rankings is a given, but I see no reason why they would disappear altogether. A final pacth with all of them in would make sense.

It's a weird move anyway. It can't cost that much server time to host a room list, it's all peer to peer from there on. Bad move.
Unless you own gt6, pushing the online community over there instead of fragmenting it is better for GT6. Understandable move I guess now GT5 copies will be littering the second hand shelves.

Meanwhile I can still play halo 3. Shutting gt5 is just stupid

Halo 3 is safe because it still has quite a few players since they offered it as a free game to Gold subscribers a few months ago.

But MS did shut down the servers of many games including Halo 2 a few years ago, so its only a matter of time before we won't be able to play online for most 360 games.

MS quitted online for original Xbox years ago, yes. I can still play GoW1 though... AFAIR they don't block specific games and didn't.

The GT5 mention is puzzling. It's hard to not think that this is just to boost GT6.

Yeah, there was a list of games that got their online cut on Xbox 360.  It was a year ago.  Maybe two.  All I know is my beloved Burnout Revenge was amongst them--and we were still able to find games to join virtually all the time!  I think they were all EA games, though.  I could be wrong.

Guess whats gonna happen this gen with the always online games.

Destiny is already in my avoid list. Still undecided about titanfall. Games without single player option are getting rare.

Shutting down GT5's online seems vindictive to be honest. Isn't GT6 failing to meet sales expectations?

For a financially struggling company, it's not exactly unexpected.  Of course, we could also blame ourselves for accepting and buying into a generation of games that removed features that allowed games to have longer legs (Server controls, for example), can't really turn around and cry foul when we've done nothing this generation but encourage companies to work this way.

Resistance 1 has been up since 2006....GT5 came out in 2010

Yeah and?  The PS4 came out 2 months ago.  It's entirely possible that it's simply too expensive for them to keep the Ps3's server's running across all the games they have currently, while maintaining/evolving the new PSN for the PS4.  And, I'm not sure about you, but there are numerous games I've played 3 years+ after release.  Thankfully, all of those games have stand alone/local server, so I don't have to deal with any of this bullshit.  It sucks for people who MP on console, but I've never been a fan of it.  Which makes this announcement fairly inconsequential to me for those games, but it's certainly a result of this generations business practices...that many many many people just bought into without thinking about the repercussions.

Are they insane? GT5 is only like 3 years old and its their best selling game. Are Sony out of their minds, why are they doing this?

Gran Turismo 5? Seriously????

I can still play Halo 1 online on PC without any problem, and that's a 2001 game. Seriously, if online play is your thing, you shouldn't be on consoles.
