I'm looking forward to KZ... but I do think they should do a few different games, get some more experience on board and then maybe in 3/4 years go back to KZ and see what they can do with it. Maybe in a different direction.

So I wanted a Maybe option :) - I will buy KZ, enjoy it, but hope they get to try something different for a while.

Yes, I said it prior to the PS4's reveal and I'd say it again. Killzone doesn't quite fill out a strong enough niche for it to be the Killer app sony want it to be. I love Sci-fi, but if Guerilla wanted to go in that direction they should have either gone all the way: laser guns, interesting weapons, or approached it from a standpoint other then military FPS. Maybe made it open world (or a collection medium size sandbox's) and more exploration focused. Either way, they would have been moving away from what killzone was.

Shadow Fall will sell up to 3m easily, buts thats because it has the fortune of launch (see the original resistance's sales). As a franchise it could definitely continue to sustain itself but I think it would be a waste of guerilla's potential.

I agree. I like KZ, but it does have a clunky feel to the whole world/story.

A new space based story FPS would be cool, they just need to do something different, and I think a new start would be good for them.. because when you are making a franchise you get stuck in the cannon of the game, and risk upsetting people by changing it. Though I do like the rumours that they are making a RPG game, as I think a totally different type of game would be a good call for them imho.

I'm guessing some people in this thread haven't played Halo judging by what is said. Don't let your bias get the best of you

Yes.

Yes. Thought I have played every Killzone (no SF,Mercenery), only KZ2 was da epic with strong sales.
I think same will happen to Killzone as to Resistance, tho great games, not so strong sales.
Guerilla sure have the skills, but they just can't seem to do "Halo" with Killzone story. So better try with new ip.

It is really hard to appreciate the KZ lore after reading all the Halo novels, comics, short stories, and watching the blurays, and video games :P

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

Fuck people are really overreacting about this whole metacritic "debacle" first ps3-sales, Aldro, now you.

If Sony are still thinking that it will be the halo-killer then yes, they should drop it. If we are going only by review scores on metacritic then lol. After one game gets a 73 average we should drop the franchise? That's fucking crazy talk :D

Overall no, they should not, it's a franchise that averages around 2,5 million in sales, that's pretty big for Sony IPs. Shadow Fall looks like it will be the best selling entry, of course inflated by being a launch title but still doesn't change the fact. Plus Guerrilla is already working on another IP, they have 2 teams now, one should work on KZ the other on a new IP.

I haven't played SF yet, but for me personally I hope they won't. I like the setting, design, conflict and gameplay mechanics are easily my favourite for FPS shooter judging by KZ3 & and slightly lesser extent KZ2. Hope they didn't change it much for SF. I don't like the fact the they have gone for a more open mission structure, I would like it to stay linear.
If they would drop KZ, no big deal for me, just be sure to keep the shooting mechanics in your next game and I'll be there. If they would do a WW2 shooter though (empty market now, since CoD is not going back to WW2 anytime soon, and MoH being dead) drop KZ in a heartbeat.

That's the thing. Imagine if you LOVED Killzone 2 and felt KZ3 was a step down because they went away from what made KZ2 so special.

Now Shadow Fall seems to continue this but with a new fresh paint of coat which atleast leads one to expect they might actually nail the story part and have a well designed game. According to reviews, this seems to be a bit 50/50. Obviously I have to play it before I can speak about it. But it is a bit disappointing that they were not able to create something that was more universally.. great if that makes sense.

For instance, nearly everyone is talking about how the last chapters are terribly designed and the ending is somehow lackluster. Hearing this makes me just facepalm so hard because they totally set up Shadow Fall as a *REBOOT* of SORTS, but they still SEEM to be unable to deliver on a game that has such a rich backstory and lore. Quite frankly, even with a new IP: I'm a bit worried. KZ3 ended pretty poorly but now with SF: I felt like they had a reason for doing it because that allowed them to make SF. Now they ended that one weak too? Oh come on!

Luckily gameplay wise: Even if its far from what I feel is a masterpiece (KZ2) its still nothing short of great. So the MP should keep me busy and shooting higgers is always fun. Like the guy below me says: They need a competent writer probably.

^I havent played it yet, so I could be full of shit. But its just my impressions by reading around.

Hell no. All they need is a semi competent writer.

GG meeting, so helghast live on vekta with a big wall separating both sides but a few bad apples invade starting a new war if vekta counter attacks.

throw in done to death kid loses parent and join military as back story.

All on board yahh lets make this game.

So true.

I'm open to playing future Killzone game, 2 & 3 had some potential, but the story and lore certainly don't match Halo and Gears. I guess xbox fans are spoilt for choise when it comes to shooters. But, there is something about the sci-fi trench warfare stuff about Killzone that I do like.

Killzone SF looks very different to Killzone, it could pass as a new IP if it had a different name. The problem lies with guerilla games. Once they hire better talent and creative guys, they have a shot at delivering a game on par with other shooters.
