Why do you care about what kind of people are buying it lol? As long as people buy it is all that matters!

Me? I just replied about what he said... for me anybody can bought the console.

Around the Network

at my gamestop the day before and launch people were paying $1000 to get those "Ultimate/MP" Bundles all their spare PS4's were gone at the midnight launch

This is interesting. why? Well Sony launched only in the US. Xbox One launches in 13 territories. I think that day one will be better for Xbox, but the holiday will be better for Sony, because Europe on the 29th.

Such an interesting time to be a gamer.

Well guys its been both fun and stressful working the PS4 launch. I thought I'd stop by and give you an update on how things are trending at launch.

1. Sony is back with a vengeance.  The momentum of the PS4 is currently nothing short of astounding.  While the 1 million sales in 24 hours number is impressive Sony could've sold somewhere in the region of 2.5 to 3 million had they provided the inventory.

2. We can't meet demand. Our phones are ringing off the hook,  customers are asking to pay huge amounts to secure one, and all stores are at or nearly at 100% sell through. Dont expect excess amounts of stock till late February or March of next year.

3. Cry for Knack, smile for Killzone.

4. COD, AC, and BF4 are King.

5. Switching to pay for play online was a good business choice. Massive increase in PS+ memberships.

6. Failures are real, but far too early to assess the percentage

In closing PS4 just had the most successful console launch in history. As long as Sony brings the games we very well may be looking at another PS2.

Now the countdown to X1 begins........

I agree about everything apart from 3 and 5. Knack is actually a good game and I've had my console since launch and from a server stand point, it's a damn NIGHTMARE. I couldn't even get my PSN up and running for like, 5 hours. Most of the features are buggy. My trouphies sometimes won't sink because of server drops. The what's new app doesn't even work again, because the servers are slow. Everything server related has been an utter MESS and considering Sony had 7 years to copy MS? Not impressive at all.

Why did I just say all that in reference to your 5th point? Because now we're PAYING for online. Where is that money going? I could tolerate it when it was free, but that goes out the window now. I expect to be able to, at the very LEAST, be able to use my new $400.00 system's features...and as of right now? STILL WAITING. This is a HUGELY wide spread problem. It's all over Playstations support forums and from what I've read, it's SUPPOSE to be fixed by Tuesday. Let's hope it is otherwise, I'm going to feel completely ripped off.

Oh, well I'm sure he just meant avid gamers, who don't necessarily have to fall into the fan/fanboy category.

I'm glad now ps plus will get the attention it deserves, a good subcription service in my opinion.

For me fan/fanboy is not a bad thing... it is good.

"super dedicated PS3 buyers" = fan.

Honestly, I've always loved the PS3's interface better than the Wii or 360 by a wide margin, and that reason was simplicity. it was just EASY. no hard to navigate menus, no complicated ads or shit unless you want them to show up, etc.

I was really worried when I saw the PS4's interface in reveal videos, since it looked like the hideous Xbox 360's interface, but now that I've use it, it seems to be aesthetically pleasing, like the Xbox 360's interface, with the simplicity of the PS3's.

I like it. I like it a lot. I just wish I knew how to sort it better so it wasn't just a string of 'most recently used software'. I'm sure once I figure that out, I'll like it a lot better than I already do.

Hmmm BenV thanks for the update

Also you say we could be looking at another PS2..im not sure in what sense you mean that games, sales, dominance etc.? But anyways in your previous thread you created you said Xbox One will have a successful launch as well...i dont see how we can have another PS2 if Xbox One will be very popular...

thoughts?

By the next PS2 I mean huge sales. Its WAY too early to definitively say but the sales / demand for PS4 are unlike any console Ive ever seen.

Time will tell if it can continue the momentum but its off to a fantastic start.

We are talking only US right?

The way I see it...if PS4 is anything like PS2 then that will have a major impact on the success of the Xbox One and to a lesser extent the WiiU. I dont see how one can dominate and the other remains successful as well. Especially given the numbers of 360/wii/ps3 in the US. Success willobviously be relative to the old gen.

Thats just my opinion i could be wrong. I think we will see a 55/45 % split this gen in the US (talking PS4/XO here). I'm still not sure which console will get the upper hand though.

I think it's too early to gauge if the momentum in the US has shifted to Sony.

I think the PS4 will be a success in the realm of the PS2 if momentum holds up, but I don't think it will impact XB1 market share. By this point they are both well established brands with very successful track records. It's not like the Nintendo / Sega days where Nintendo maintain creditability and Sega destroyed there's leading to two failed consoles back to back. So I'd say its entirely possible for Sony to do numbers close to the PS2 with the PS4 and Xbox could very well do numbers similar to provided there is enough people buying both consoles over time. It's not uncommon these days for people to own two or three current generation consoles, so I'd say that is plausible.

As it stands I have full intentions of owning all three consoles this generation which will be the second time out of the 5 consoles generations I've been alive for.

If you liked XMB so much, you will find PS4 an absolute dream; its so much easier to navigate through.
