Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Xbox one power scaling due to external updates! how listening to the internet has shot microsoft in the ass

I would have preferred less cloud servers and a cheaper console, I don't want to buy a console knowing 3/4th of the thing is on paid rental.

Also those thinking the cloud will have an impact on the visual aspect or even for a moment directly influence frame rates or textures are barking up the wrong tree, you could have 100mbit net and it still wouldn't be suffifient for that, there's a reason why cloud computing doesn't do live data, folding for example assigns jobs these jobs are they downloaded and proceeded locally, the Xbox one then attempts to do this in reverse, assigns a job to a cloud server and the server processed it and returns the result, this is only good for small chunks of data such as profile data (I will go into detail on what exactly Sforza does with the cloud if you try telling me I'm wrong).

Processing live data isn't going to happen in this generation and probably won't in our lifetimes.

The scale and cost of offloading live processing to a server is more than the cost of simply improving the processing ability of the local device.

But go ahead and believe the vs people are spinning, I'll be sure to bring you back to earth when my Xbox one arrives and I analyze the cloud usage of each game in stark detail.

you assume a very slow technical advance while the general trend is actually increasing, if you read some off the stuff its already in the first stages, not gonna say it does alot but the start is there.

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

As soneone that spent a good few years of their life writing networking frameworks for modern games, I don't see it, we struggle to get 64 players in a single game at once without massive lag, we struggle to pull live stats from active players without end of match stat syncs, we are not even close to the reality of live processing, you're all being taken for a ride.

Every few days we see a Xbox One secret sauce thread.

The truth is there isn't a secret sauce. The console's are what they are. There isn't a second GPU or 300,000 server advantage. It's all a lie to make Xbox One said superior to other console's. If they could, they would try it for Xbox vs PC... but no one is dumb enough to believe it because Titan > Cloud Computing

I don't know if people are lying or just misinformed, but Microsoft didn't build a cloud server service that's world wide for the Xbox One. They did however build a cloud server service that's world wide and are using 300,000 of those servers.

Anyone... ANYONE can rent out Azure servers. Look right here http://www.windowsazure.com/en-us/

You, I, Sony... anyone can rent them. Sony right now could rent 300,000 Azure servers. Or they could go with Google or any other company that offers this type of service.

So how can it be an advantage? It's not.

But this is what happens when you get your news and information from youtube or any site fishing for hits

The TRUTH is...

A) multiplatform titles will look the same. One game may have 1-2 FPS more or one may have a little less tearing but nothing meaningful.

B) First party title > multiplatform titles

We can continue to do this for the upcoming months, but all of it will be plain B.S.

Whats stupid is, the games for both look great, if theses an advantage in graphics or framerate, it wont matter anywhere near as much as people are making it out, people still bought ps3 versions of multiplats even though many were worse, people will still buy xbox one versions even if theyre notably worse too.

In the end what matters is that the games remain fun, regardless of how close, or how far apart they are graphically.

Infinite power of the cloud

Sorry, I'm too busy laughing at the people that say Gaikai is going to be wonderful and Microsoft's cloud is useless. Because that sentence contradicts itself so much. Either it can work, like Netflix Streaming, World of Warcraft, World of Tanks, and every other multi online game, or it can't.

You don't get to pick one reality because that is the one you want.

To answer your question. I remember a programer/developer working on Ryse they they were offloading some things, like a big burning fire and some giant smoke clouds. So playing offline might lose out on some of the vistas. Beyond that, we will have to wait and see.

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

Firstly the Cloud can't be used to render/compute any part of the game that is reactive... so 90% of the code can't be done in Cloud... only parallel non-reactive code can be done on Cloud.

Second... nothing changed... even with always online the dev will need to have a backup code that works offline... the game will have to run even if you are offline.

Cloud won't give you more power or graphics... it will enhancement the experience with better non-reactive simulations data. And nothing done on Cloud can't be done in a dedicated server... there arw nothing new with the Cloud because Cloud are a cluster of dedicated servers.

how serious is this post if you contradict yourself within 3 sentences?

then again it is not my loss if you can't see that the cloud/serverbased tech is gonna be quite the innovation future in the next few years. i have never seen you take into account future innovations, just based on current situation. if you can't do that then you can't see the tech improving.

im gonna pull a JL and say at the end of this gen the cloud will triple its power per xbox one!

There is nothing innovative in the Cloud... that's the biggest point here... the power, innovation, etc are PR bull. That's why MS stooped to talk about Cloud and Sony now is showing some use of it.

The best implementation of the Cloud on Xbone is Forza 5's Drivatar and it won't increase graphics or give more power to Xbone... and of couser could be done in any dedicated server because Cloud is that since 19xx.

Now I failed to see where I contradicted myself in the bold part because the two comments are the same lol.

the server base isn't , but itself is in the scope and its available for a console

I truly doubt it will be of any use when talking about single player experience (except maybe the ghost data capability) but it could help in the multiplayer segment.

Only time will tell, and for now they have the benefit of doubt
