Forums - General Discussion - Yahoo declines Microsoft's 44 billion Bid! Thank god!

^^They already tried Square to no avail, but I agree.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

Microsoft needs to do something though in their fight against a rapidly growing threat (Google). The 40+ billion bid may have seemed like a bad decision but if it helped to keep their core businesses safe it would have been more than worth it. Microsoft needs new leadership because in my opinion they should be doing a lot better online and with the 360 (bad decisions have cost millions of console sales, lost opportunities of buying successful game developers, and keeping their internal studios happy).

quite frankly, microsoft doesn't really care about 360. it's only a very peripheral business for the company. plus, game studios are so much cheaper price just won't affect any acquisition decisons for microsoft.

search, is much more core to the company. microsoft's chief rival appears to be google now, not IBM, not Apple, even.

They care, they wouldn't have stuck with the system this long and obviously plan to continue with it if they didn't care. It's just that Google is far more of a threat to them and their core businesses than Sony (I guess I'm agreeing with you on your second point).

well, yeah, like you said, they DO care, i was just trying to say they it's more of a peripheral business than search, so in terms of "level of care", it's quite low on the list.  probably not as low as zune, though.

"Thank God"???

what? seriously? you don't want microsoft and yahoo to tie up?

yahoo by itself can't stand up to google. microsoft has the money to spare. a microsoft-yahoo tie up at least has a chance to challenge google.

60% premium to the stock price is a lot... i guess microsoft would have to increase its bid, still.

Yeah I don't know why it would be negative, unless Sony fanboys are scared it could boost Xbox sales.

Eh I think it's more the Anti-microsoft... anti-fans?  Lots of people hate microsoft just because it's microsoft.

Reminds me of that one southpark, where they destroy Wal-mart.  Then support a local buisness... that in turn  becomes Wal-mart like.  Which they burn down again.

one thing really impressive about google is that despite its near monopoly, it hasn't garnered nearly the hate microsoft did.

i guess google has good PR? with motos like "do no evil" and humors on April 1st or side projects like google moon and the $20 million X Prize.

whereas... i'm sure microsoft also gave away a lot of money, but google gave it away in much smarter ways.

microssoft should of bought youtube they made a mistake theyre

tag:"reviews only matter for the real hardcore gamer"

yeah... except if i recall correctly the youtube people didn't want to sell their company to microsoft. they want to retain complete control of youtube.

time for a hostile takeover!

no, please no hostile takeovers. then it won't be microsoft and yahoo, it'll be microsoft alone. i think the yahoo management and brains are still very important assets in this tie-up.
