Strange deal.. MS Buys the lumia name but can't use "Nokia".. There will never be a Nokia device in the future..
Its also a cheap deal cause MS isn't buying the Nokia patents.. It only lisences it.. I can understand they want a firmer grip on Windows Phone but still to get those sales from 30 million smartphones to 50 million to break even isn't easy..

The thing is it adds nothing to the appeal of the devices for people who dont already use them and passed them up before, unless they start inregrating xbox live stuff more agressively, and that could potentially put off as many current users as it attracts new users.

at the same time the move could potentially sway the brand confidence for those buying because its nokia, and not necessarilly because its running windows mobile.

Last nokia i actually liked was a 3210, nothing of value has been lost.

Over here in Japan, Xperia A, SGS4, iPhone 5 and Eluga X are the mobile kings.

Over there in Japan, you can buy used panties from a machine just to smell on them.

A lot of people, especially on VGC, think Japan would be an super-important market.
Why the **** do people still think Japan would be an indicator for anything?

The world changed since the 1990s when Japan used to have so much more technical devices  than the US and even more so Europe.
I am not talking about you, I just saw this a couple of times before.

Apparently over there in wherever the hell you live, you still genuinely believe you can buy used panties in vending machines - that has not, and never will be the case - and as such why should your view be taken seriously in any way at all? when its clearly based on urban myths and heresay?

{Edit}  - before you post pictures/youtube of people stood by a vending machine selling panties and say "hur hur youre wrong" - let me educate you a little - in the 90s and earlier, fettish stores and the like would purchase used underwear to sell under the counter to regular customers (no weirder than such stores across the world selling child porn in similar ways), the yakuza cottoned on to this and started stocking a small number of machines in seedy places with "used panties", when in actual fact these were manufacturered using , basically, animal urine, fecal matter and in some cases pigs blood, placed on to new articles then packed and passed off as a pair someone had been wearing, this was quickly banned and now the very few machines youll find in very questionable areas are actually just clean underwear sprayed with a perfume.

This i'm also worried about.. it will be a microsoft lumia because the 'Nokia' mark will remain property of the Finnish company, and may only be used on featurephones under a 10-year license agreement.. the Brand power of Nokia is so easily tossed away.. too easily..

*hug his nokia 3210*

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

Great deal for Nokia. Bought 100% of NSN (a profitable company) and sold the devices & services to MS. Last quarter Nokia lost 270million USD, so I say good riddance. And its not the patents only, the employees will move too. So MS bought the entire Nokia Devices & Services Business, which is a part of the Nokia business. I say its good move from Nokia

Happy to live far away from Japan =p.  You guys are sick! ^^'

Now that's how you take over a former expensive company!

Place a trojan Elop horse right in the heart of the company, let it ruin the company from inside, then when the company is ruined, purchase the interesting parts at a bargain price. Classic!

Some of the responses in here lololol. I suggest you get up to date on marketshare movements Windows phone (basically Nokia) is gaining decent share quite quickly.

Great deal for nokia handsets, great deal for microsoft and one hell of a great deal for kowenicki

I made a lot of cash today.

It's easy to significantly increase your market share by decent numbers when you start with such a small percentage.

They'll be lucky to ever get near iOS and there's not a snowflakes chance in hell they'll ever catch Android.

or putting it another way....

Microsft will be able to pay for this in fairly short time with the license fees it now receives from.... Android.
