Forums - Sales Discussion - Now that the Vita had a price drop, will the Wii U still be able to catch it this year?

Can the wii U over take?

Not this year now 42 19.27%

Yes 88 40.37%

Maybe 36 16.51%

Not at all. 50 22.94%

Other post below 2 0.92%

Total:218

I didn't think it would overtake anyway. 2.15m advantage that is still widening.

Price cut won't do that much though.

The Wii U was never going to catch up this year.

And why exactly is that? "Never" really?

Wii U has been getting games this year. It got Lego City, monster hunter, Injustice, WarioWare, etc. They seem like nothing to the doom and gloom cloud, except Pikmin, but still WAY more than what Vita received.  Heck Vita is getting its first real game of the year next week with Rayman Legends(or that boob one last week I guess). That's 9 months in the west without a single non trash game! Even so, week by week it has managed to outsell Wii U. Now that it finally is getting games like Killzone and Tearaway plus PS4 remote play, why would Nintendo's holiday games be enough to not only beat it weekly but close the 2 million plus gap?

Heck the week Pikmin 3 came out in the US, the Vita still beat the Wii U with sales from that boob game. People only even know that boob game exists because of a stupid kotaku controversy months ago, and yet that stupid game pushed more systems than the much bigger and advertized Pikmin 3.

WiiU didn't get games, it had a long drought. MH+Lego came out the same time (stupid decision on Ninty) and we just got pikmin 3, the only game that should of done well(which isn't that bad). WiiU has games coming Oct (W101 is a cool game that no1 will own). Vita got lots of games, they are just Japan oriented(but you listed MH which is the same thing). WiiU has a slight chance, even though both are terrible with sales but saying NEVER is just being Biased. We all dont know how well it could do with SM3DW/DKTF/SLW/LoZ WW HD this holiday. Deja Vu with Vita+3DS Fiasco. Just saying, i think Vita will have around a mil more sales than WiiU but at the same time there is always a chance something can change. Nobody before 3DS price cut thought it would kill the vita right?

Oh you misunderstood my first post. "Will the Wii U still be able to catch the Vita this year"? "The Wii U was never going to catch up this year". I'm referring to the thread title. I was meaning the same thing as "Before the Vita price cut the Wii U wasn't going to catch up, so of course it's not going to now".

As for your points though, I don't think you understand. In Japan, stuff happens. I don't really follow their games. In the west though, the Wii U got Lego City, Injustice, that Wario game, that mii party game I think, and NSLU off the top of my head. Vita got NOTHING! Its biggest game in the past 9 months was the PSN title Guacamelee that was crossbuy with PS3.

Vita will receive a price drop but no software push.

Wii U will receive a software push but no price drop.

This Holiday we will learn for certain which has the greater impact.

I highly doubt the WiiU will catch the Vita this year.

I think God Eater will not let's Wii u outselling Vita

1 huge game vs 4 huge games... (this includes Mario)

What are those huge 4 games? Mario and Donkey Kong are the only games that are definitely going to be huge.

Also Vita has around twice as many releases this fall then the Wii U. Final Fantasy X, Legend of Heroes, Gundam Breaker, Dynasty Warriors 8 xtreme, Project J versus, Tearaway, Killzone, Dragon ball Z,White album 2, Stein Gate, warriors orochi 3 ultimate and a few more i can't remember.

Wii u never had the chance, even with Mario & WW. At least in Japan Vita will have God Eater 2 and other games. And the price drop... in 2013 I doubt it, 2014 with SSB, MK8 and other titles maybe, who knows.

I don't thinks it going to pass vita but I do reckon it will close the game to around 700k

I dont think Wii U will pass it this year but it should be able to close the gap. Im guessing Wii U will be around 7 million and Vita around 8 million by the end of the year.
