No price cut whatsoever doesn't exactly put Nintendo in a great position this holiday even with Mario 3D World + DKC.

PS3- $199.99 (12GB); $249.99 (500GB?)
360 - $179.99? (4GB) gotta be a price drop coming

Wii U - $349.99 (32GB)

PS4 - $399.99 (500GB)
XB1 - $499.99 (500GB)

It's stuck between a rock and a hard place.

If ur using the cheapest sku for all the consoles, why not so the same for Wii U? Basic-$299, ur point still stands just seems weird.

It looks like the Basic is being phased out entirely. So if the deluxe becomes the only SKU, I just don't see how they can't drop the price. It would be suicide.

Agreed but as of right now the Basic still exists and is the cheaper sku so ur comparison isnt the most accurate since every console on there has its cheapest sku. Also a price cut isnt confirmed for either PS3 or 360 so ur basing this off of assumptions

Mario burned out? lol NSMBU is the only game thats keeping WiiU afloat. it has sold close to 2m copies on a 3m userbase

and WiiU has had the best 3rd party support ever for a Nintendo console at launch

your other points are also completely arguable

NSMB isn't getting the job done in selling systems, I think in part because people don't view the game as "special". It's just "another Mario game", because Nintendo has been pumping out too many Mario games the last couple of years.

It's not an "event" game like Super Mario 64 was or even Smash Bros. Melee for the GCN launch. Every point is arguable including your entire post, lol, so I'm not sure what that proves.

How well do u think Wii would have sold if NSMB was the only major title on Wii for the first 8 months?

So... no 2013 price confirmed!? ...again!?

What defines as a "major title"?

Because clearly Nintendo fashioned Nintendo Land to be the Wii Sports equivalent on the Wii U and quality wise it probably is a superior game to Wii Sports in many regards. Just because casuals don't care for asymetric gaming or aren't excited by the idea of a tablet controller in the same way as a Wiimote, doesn't make Nintendo Land less of an effort than Wii Sports.

The Wii didn't have many "major" titles its first 8 months either to be honest. Wii Sports + Zelda and a whole bunch of mediocrity after that.

Honestly I think the Wii would've sold out its first 6 million units even if Wii Sports + Wii Play were the only two games on it.

Yeah, Wii just needed any game that utilized it's main selling point, motion controls and simplicity. Still, expecting NSMB to sell a system almost entirely on it's own is a bit silly. The game series has done huge numbers in the past but that was always on already established system.

«I'm not buying a console just for what it's worth in December 2013. Wii U will be better at that point in time - no question, but will it still be better in December 2014? How about December 2015? 2016? »

Why not? Who is saying otherwise ? What are their arguments? Do they have any crystal balls? Did they predict rightfully that PS3 will lose all its exclusives, that Wii will dominate or 3DS will crush Vita? Everything is possible this gen, WiiU has a lot of assets to have a very significant third parties support and a really bright future. My guess is that nothing is set in stone right now and if you are excluding the possibility than WiiU could still be the best offering for years to come you certainly overlook very important criterias. Like you admit it will be the best next gen offering this fall everything else is just assumptions on your part.

I say:

Pretty much everyone. No 3rd party support is probably the number 1 reason. PS3 has a huge number of exclusives, Wii didn't dominate the generation, PS2 dominated its generation, but not Wii. Wii U and significant 3rd party support? Don't be silly, just go and search for all the devs who say "Wii U is not on our radar". It's the Wii all over again. Moreover, I won't buy a single multiplat on Wii U, cause I will always choose the PS4 version, which will be of a much higher fidelity. Wii U is already condemned, it is a console that I'll use only to play exclusives. 3rd parties aren't too keen on putting exclusives on it now, so this pretty much leaves it to become a Nintendo only console. And Nintendo alone isn't worth as much as Sony + 3rd parties. That's why to me Wii U is worth 200 Euro and I'll buy it once I find it for that price. Though I understand that a general customer will probably buy it for 250, but 350 is a ridiculous price for what this console offers.

Wii U is a GCN 2 - I called it months before the release!

My Vita to-buy list: The Walking Dead, Persona 4 Golden, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, TearAway, Ys: Memories of Celceta, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, History: Legends of War, FIFA 13, Final Fantasy HD X, X-2, Worms Revolution Extreme, The Amazing Spiderman, Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate - too many no-gaemz :/

My consoles: PS2 Slim, PS3 Slim 320 GB, PSV 32 GB, Wii, DSi.

Both models are priced too high- but the Basic model offers less vale than the Premium- If you think you will want Nintendo Land then you buy the Premium for that reason alone- if you buy the basic plus Nintendo Land or retail 1 game you are at the same cost of the Premium- so the basic has never been priced to sell for the avg consumer- also, if you buy the basic model you are almost def going to have to add storage space which again puts it up to or over the cost of the Premium- there is really not much reason to buy the basic unless it was AT LEAST $100 less tan the premium

Even if they drop the price so that the basic was $200 and the deluxe $250, as long as there's still that $50 difference, then the basic will sell much less than the deluxe. I say it should be gotten rid of!
