NSMB isn't getting the job done in selling systems, I think in part because people don't view the game as "special". It's just "another Mario game", because Nintendo has been pumping out too many Mario games the last couple of years.

It's not an "event" game like Super Mario 64 was or even Smash Bros. Melee for the GCN launch. Every point is arguable including your entire post, lol, so I'm not sure what that proves.

How well do u think Wii would have sold if NSMB was the only major title on Wii for the first 8 months?

What defines as a "major title"? 

Because clearly Nintendo fashioned Nintendo Land to be the Wii Sports equivalent on the Wii U and quality wise it probably is a superior game to Wii Sports in many regards. Just because casuals don't care for asymetric gaming or aren't excited by the idea of a tablet controller in the same way as a Wiimote, doesn't make Nintendo Land less of an effort than Wii Sports.

The Wii didn't have many "major" titles its first 8 months either to be honest. Wii Sports + Zelda and a whole bunch of mediocrity after that.

Honestly I think the Wii would've sold out its first 6 million units even if Wii Sports + Wii Play were the only two games on it.
