Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Would You Rather Talk To Your TV Or Press A Button?

Which do you prefer?

Press a button 283 86.54%

Say a phrase 44 13.46%

Total:327

I'd actually like to do a certain pre-programmed gesture rather than either.

Like a password.

That way, I don't have to wake anyone up, and don't have to go and find a button. I think mine will be the crane stance.

A button, it would look really weird if you talked to your TV and it could be so easily activated by others if they wanted. Any could activate a TV with their voice and it would be problematic. There is only remote, so yeah press a button

Xbox One, PS4 and Switch (+ Many Retro Consoles)

Prediction: Switch will sell better than Wii U Lifetime Sales by Jan 1st 2018

The problem with the first Kinect was that you had to be able to see the words before you could say it (except with the Bing Search engine). On the X1 for example, you can say, "game demos" and it will bring you right to it. That is much faster than having to scroll over toward games, select game marketplace, and then scroll to game demos. Being able to say say a word without it actually being on screen is very convenient, and faster than button presses.

Press a button.

Are people really too lazy to push a button??

Honestly I think people would expend less energy pressing a button than saying a phrase, considering you already have your controller in your hands.  I think Microsoft is hoping the novilty will get picked up, which I don't think it will.

Press a button, I have Siri on my phone and never use it so I don't think I would on a console either

lol so people actually like the less convenient way... I bet you people probably would have been the same guys saying, DVD is a gimmick you prefer VHS, or GUI is a gimmick you prefer command lines, etc etc.... preferring a button than a handsfree feature makes absolutely no sense, it's like saying I would rather walk 3 miles than be teleported to that 3 miles away destination.... you guys make no sense at all

I would rather push a button, seriously.

I do talk to my computer, but he nerver answers, and I'm glad he doesn't understand, I wouldn't want it to go away because I hurt its feelings.

More seriously, there is a good reason why there is only one remote in the living room. You wouldn't want 5 people shouting contradictory orders to the TV until it answers "Xbox suicide" and auto destruct because it can't take a decision

I'm guessing you didn't even read the OP.  Also on top of those points imagine your playing a game and someone walks in and says "Turn the xbox off."  All the xbox will hear is xbox off and shut off.  Also comparing VHS and DVD to pushing a button and saying a phrase makes no sense and holds no merit.

I'd rather talk to a button...
