A couple of things to consider about the amazing performance of The Last of Us;

It's an 18+ title
Is exclusive to 1 format
Is released in the summer drought
Is released near the end of the generation
It hasn't been discounted in price yet
The system it's released on is not leading in the UK market
It's a new IP

And then it goes on to stay at number 1 for 6 consecutive weeks. Simply mind-boggling! And let's not forget about all the perfect review score it's managed to earn.

It is good, but aside from Animal Crossing it hasn't really had an awful lot of competition

Every Nintendo fan was expecting Animal Crossing to dethrone it. No one would've been surprised if Minecraft came in at number 1. Really, it's impressive no matter how one may put it.

Very true. I don't mean to take anything away from this feat, because it's damn good. Well deserved as well.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

nice to see DW 8 up there. still shocked the 360 version sold better though. TLoU will be dethroned soon :(

I think the sale numbers for it are more impressive than the 6 weeks. 300k in the UK is more than Uncharted 3 did during it's first 6 weeks there right?

Naughty Dog must be pretty excited about that

a lot of "yeah, but" posts in here.

cant you just say well done?

we said well done weeks ago.  do we have to keep going forever?

not allowed to qualify success or bring numbers?

anyhow... you actually think this post is clever dont you. lol.  imitation... the sincerest form of flattery.

Laughing at hypocrisy is always hilarious, kowenicki.

Can't wait for the next xbox thread where Kowen gets really upset at anyone talking about "facts" reporting them all for trolling and thread derailment.

OT: Great job by Naughty Dog. 6 weeks is 6 weeks. It doesn't matter the release date because 6 weeks is the record for the entire 7 years of this current gen. Only two games did it, yet games have been getting released in the summer every year for 7 years.

Cool, congrats to Last of Us for matching the record.

Don't you know that some facts are facter than other facts?

Never ever ever reported anyone for stating facts.  ever

"facts" can mean a lot of things. For instance, vgchartz data from a consistently undertracked country in which games such as NSMB2, fifa13, mass effect 3, kinect star wars, Ghost Recon, fifa12, legobatman 2, london 2012 olympics, sleeping dogs, devil may cry, blops 2, crysis 3, bioshock infinite, dead island, metro last light, donkey kong returns 3d (8k), grid 2 (5k) have all held the top spot with under 15k, is not "fact". All but 3 of those at 12k, more than half at 10k or less.

While, 10k is a fact....the surprise at the industry slowdown is not factually representative, and neither is the use of preliminary vgc data.

As far as the reporting thing, whatever then, we can still talk about how you call the ps fans tiresome, damage controllers, haters, trolls, and then go into other threads and exhibit the same behavior.

Dressing up downplay by inserting a fact here or there doesn't mean it's factual discussion...it just means you're covering your ass. Kinda like how writing OT: and a throwaway post after talking about something else doesn't mean you're contributing to the thread....it just means you don't want to be reported for thread derailment.

OT: (real one)

After looking up some of the bigger titles to be released over the past two years in UK, I've noticed that TLoU actually has really good legs in comparison to most games. What I'll be looking for in the fall is a continuation of that. Hopefully this manages to pick up quite a few more sales in the holiday season. The holidays are a huge boon to those weekly sales indexes. For example, Halo 4 didn't hit 10k until the first week after Christmas, though it was trending roughly 1.8 times what TLoU was doing.

Maybe we can see this game crack 600k in the UK.

Its worth noting that The Last of Us has been in relatively low stock (anecdotal, I admit), and it is yet to recieve a pricecut.

Im really not sure how it will do in the holidays, with the next gen consoles launching and competition from Call of Duty, Battlefield, GTA and Gran Turismo.
