Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Would you reccommend a 3DS to anyone?

Abso-Freekin-lutely. It has been my main system for many months now. My PS3 is second, PSP is third and my 360 is an also ran.

Starting next week SMT 4 is going to knock out everything else for a month or so. The only thing I have to complain about is that I don't have an XL yet. But it is coming

No. It would make my chances for a girlfriend significantly less.

WTF? But having a Wii+WiiU wont affect that(looks at sig)

Not many people know I own a 3DS/Wii/U except my best friends (and it has to stay that way).

LOL, how do you figure that people knowing you have a 3DS would be to your detriment? I'm 59 and married with 2 grown children and I don't give a rat's ass who knows I have a 3DS.

At launch? Not a chance in hell.

Now? More than any other console currently on the market (and WW sales seem to agree).

Of course. I have recommended a 3DS dozens of times already.

The games like

  1. Resident Evil: Revelations (back when it was still exclusive)
  2. Kid Icarus: Uprising
  3. Super Mario 3D Land
  4. Mario Kart 7
  5. Dead or Alive: Dimensions (good 3D fighter)
  6. Tales of the Abyss for anyone who hasn't played it on the PS2
  7. Pokemon X/Y
  8. Shin Megami Tensei IV (looking great)
  9. Fire Emblem: Awakening
  10. Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance
  11. LoZ: Ocarina of Time 3D
  12. Etrian Odyssey IV (if you like the classic dungeon crawler genre)
  13. Animal Crossing: New Leaf
  14. The upcoming Bravely Default: Flying Fairy
  15. The upcoming LoZ: A Link Between Worlds
  16. The upcoming Mario & Luigi: Dream Team
  17. The upcoming Super Smash Bros
  18. The upcoming Rune Factory 4
  19. The upcoming Ace Attorney game
  20. The upcoming Yoshi's Island game
  21. The inevitable Kirby game
  22. It's backwards compatible with the DS
  23. It's getting a pretty decent Virtual Console collection. Recently they released Super Mario Bros 2 on the 3DS Virtual Console.
  24. Games in Japan that could get localized such as Monster Hunter 4 and Youkai Watch.

edit: There's also

  1. Luigi's Mansion 2
  2. Paper Mario
  3. Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate
  4. Theatrhythm Final Fantasy
  5. Zero Escape
  6. Harvest Moon
  7. An unannounced title from Monolith Soft
  8. Possibly a Persona game (assuming it wasn't cancelled)
  9. Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D
  10. Star Fox 64 3D
  11. Pokemon Mystery Dungeon
  12. SMT: Soul Hackers
There's clearly more as well that I haven't listed that are potential games to get for the 3DS (covering many genres here).

Anyone, except people who only play FPS and sports games.

Girls from my age aren't that openminded (21). If I would go on a date with a girl at 21 and suddenly pull out my 3ds its OVER. Of course there ARE girls who are pretty/sweet and don't give a crap about me playing Nintendo, but they're very good at hide-and-seek. I still haven't found the right girl and I'm looking for years.

Depending on your interests and if you own a DS yet or not, then yes or no.

Prior to the XL version coming out, I'd have said no regardless as there weren't any games good enough and the original 3DS sucks ass. The 3DS ergonomics suck and it's easily the most uncomfortable handheld I've played. Is it that hard to make a comfortable handheld Nintendo? Until the XL(and maybe the DS XL, but I've never used it,) you haven't made one comfortable handheld since the original GBA.

If the person didn't own a DS. Then yes. Get an XL and get all the great DS games you're missing first, then get 3DS games here and there..

If the person has already owned a DS, then prior to February I would have said no. The games that are constantly praised as some of the very best on the system aren't even among the best exclusive portable games between the Vita and 3DS.

February and beyond I'd say yes, but only if you have atleast a mild interest ini RPGs. Tales of the Abyss and Devil Survivor Overclock are already on other systems, so the first good exclusives on the system are Fire Emblem and Etrian Odyssey 4, Soul Hackers having came out in April, SMT4 coming out this month, while Bravely Default, and the Etrian Odyssey remake coming out closer to the end of the year. Crimson Shroud came out in December, but I won't tell someone to buy a system based on a digital title. There's also Project X Zone which I wouldn't have put anything down on it being good, and from the reviews, even the ones that do score it high, it has some pretty bad flaws.

So why would I base a purchase on two games and others coming out in the future? Because there are few RPGs that are released these days, fewer still that are good RPGS. Handheld RPGs have been better than console RPGs on average.

The mildly interested in RPGs part because there are some good games on the 3DS. Cave Story 3D is the only really standout great title. Lords of Shadow Mirror of Fate, Super Mario 3D Land, Kid Icarus(maybe, never played this,) are fairly good games I'd say getting because you own the system, not something you should buy the system for. There's really nothing else that I'd say waste your money on.

If the person was looking for a more diverse library of games, I'd have recommended the Vita. Right now I'd say the 3DS are Vita are on equal footing, but once SMT4 comes out the 3DS will be the better portable until. September and beyond, Vita has a lot of good looking exclusives.

In terms of hardware, it could be built better, (New 3DS revision plz)

But it's still the best gaming system out there right now. Would recommended to everyone. It has better 3rd party support than the DS too, which is surprising.

http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/profile/92109/nintendopie/ Nintendopie  Was obviously right and I was obviously wrong. I will forever be a lesser being than them. (6/16/13)

It'll happen. Took me over 20 "relationships" to find my wife but it happened. I didn't get married until I was in my 30's.  I do agree though that one should never pull out their 3DS on a date though. It kinda says "well I'm tired of you so I'm going to play a game now."

Find yourself a nice lady who likes to game and you're golden man. My wife beat all the Mario games and many others way before I did. LOL
