Forums - Gaming Discussion - I sold my Xbox 360 and bought a tablet. Is this the way things are going?

I think there is still a place for consoles. I'm keeping my PS3 and Wii U and will buy a PS4.

But I think there will be more people who have fewer consoles and diversify with tablets etc to mix it up a bit. This is only going to see lower console sales in general, but consoles will still sell.

Five years ago I would have put the 360 money toward an Xbox One to make sure I had all three again. This time around, I just feel like diversifying into tablet ownership would be more beneficial than owning all three consoles...

Do others feel the same?

I will stick with:

Xbox One

Tablet

Phone

Thats all I need for gaming.  For the first time I am a one console gen adopter.

But I am going to wait for a proper tablet (to replace my current ipad2), one that can handle decent games and I can sync the xbox controller with.  A cheap (no offense) android tab is a waste of time imo, it just replicates the phone gaming experience.

Didn't you buy a WiiU with ZombiU ?

No. I think it is just you. I am still keeping my NES and Atari. Never sold any gaming console I have. Love them sooooooo much!!!!!!!

Besides my work Mac, I think my tablet is the most used device I use.. more then my phone, consoles even my TV.. e-mail, surfing the web, playing some games, streaming movies and TV shows are all done on my tablet

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

The only thing you demonstrated is you didn't use your 360. You still own multiple consoles.

I bought a Kindle Fire and came to the conclusion mobile games kinda suck. A much more shallow experience than console gaming.

I don't think that a tablet or smartphone is a real substitute for a console. A portable gaming device is nice if you have some time to kill while you are waiting for something or while you are in the bus etc...

But a console is for dedicated gaming. I put all my concentration on the game while I play and I take it serious. I don't think that a tablet has much to offer in this regard. Additionally, touchscreen controls are simply not well suited for dedicated gaming. Most genres are simply worse playable with a touchscreen. Even the DS or the Vita fail to deliver in this part in my personal opinion... I try to avoid touch controls if possible.

To be honest, if I had to choose between gaming with a tablet PC or with a retro console like the SNES... I would choose the SNES. It may not have better graphics, but it offers dedicated games that have enough depth for me to be enjoyed and that would not be controllable with a tablet. I just don't think that playing Super Mario World or Zelda with touch controls could be fun...

In my opinion consoles are for people who are into games. Tablets are for people who just want to waste time.

You still have a PS3 and Wii U. I don't see what the problem is. If I sold my old stereo to buy a TV then would that be the end of the stereo business?

Desktop: AMD Phenom X4 955, ATI Radeon 7950 :: Laptop: Intel i7-3532QM, ATI Radeon 7670m

Consoles: 3DS XL, PS Vita, Zelda 3DS, PS3 Super Slim, DSi, PSP Go, PS3 Fat, Wii, GameCube, PS2

Now Playing: Metroid Prime 2, Dark Souls, Fallout: New Vegas, The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages, Persona 4: Golden

The quality of games on a tablet doesn't do it for me and all my media and computing needs are fulfilled by more traditional PC's.

I see no use for a tablet.

I've never understand this.
You have a smartphone, you have a pc/laptop.
Why the fuck do you need something in between? Reading the paper when you're on the toilet or to watch porn before you go to bed?

I have an ipad 3 that's just collecting dust pretty much, the only occasion when it is used is when I go to shower and need some music. I think they're utterly useless medians, laptops are considerably better and more comfortable to use, and the consoles + Desktop PC's are a much better alternatives for gaming, if you're travelling alot, the phone games can rival those of a tablet essentially, well from my experience. I mean I have an ipad but I don't even know what games I would play it, since the selection is so lacksture and there are much better counterparts available on PC or consoles.

tl/dr; no, tablets will never rival that of the other stuff. I would still like to think that it's a hype that will essentially die down.
