Forums - Gaming Discussion - Prediction: XBox 1 will win the generation (consoles)

I'll own a PS4 and Wii U this generation, but I think sales will be PS4, Xbox One, then Wii U.

The price, power, and ease of development is going to help the PS4 win market share this generation. Last generation the PS3 was overpriced and how difficult it was to program for made a lot of games look marginably better on the 360. People took notice of this, especially when GTA4 came out and comparisons of the game that used to be a PS3 exclusive looked slightly better on the 360 due to higher resolution.

This gen if there's any difference in disparity between third party titles, it'll be in favor of the PS4.

  • Microsoft seems to have a concrete plan in place to make the XB1 succeed.

I just can't take your post seriously when you make a statement like this. Have you been paying attention to what's been going on?

No chance. The 360 had everything going in its favor this generation, and it still couldn't outsell the PS3. After the way MS has stumbled out of the gates so far, I don't see how they're going to improve their position generation over generation. The fact that they were apparently willing to scrap their entire "vision" for their console speaks volumes about where the Xbox division is at the moment.

As for the Wii U, the Gamecube had all those same Nintendo series and was also cheaper than the Playstation...

I truly believe that if the 360 didn't have the RROD problems in the first couple years of its life, the entire landscape of the console race would have been different. That fiasco was a major blot on the system until they straightened it out. Had it never happened, I think the 360 would have dominated this generation in the US, UK, and Europe.

They will definitely win the NA and UK even if some are dreaming Sony is going to beat Microsoft in America.
I also think they will win over the WiiU... But to be the top console worldwide, while they have chances too, I would not a call it a win already but their offering is definitely better than Sony and they are also going to gain access a large market (and this is what matters in a long term plan...).

what large market are they going to gain access to?

More casual (IE: Wii customers) and people looking for all in one boxes too...

While I agree that Microsoft has a plan I am still not so sure how that plan will work out. It DEFINITELY sounds good and they have some great ideas. But IF it comes into play by then the PS4 with it's cheaper price and equal gaming will already be to far ahead to catch up to. MS is IMO focusing WAY to much on the future and ignoring the present.

It is not BAD to focus on the future but MOST people(the average consumer) only look at the right now not 3-5 years from now what MIGHT be happening. Now WE of the "internet" can see where they are planning on going and can see it's potential there as well. And even with that, they have FAR more competition to worry about outside of SONY/NIN with where it seems they are trying to go.

And trying to compete with so many different companies at once.....even for MS THAT will take a toll on them. So for now I hope they continue to focus on their gaming side with the Xbox One and then after they have a well established fan base start giving more focus to the bonus features that they have to offer....just my opinion of course.

lastly....nah I agree with most others here it will be PS4>Xbox One>Wii U but not by super large margins.

If the box had something that the more casual users wanted and at a sensible price... then maybe. At $500 with what its currently got... don't think so.

You could call the Wii-u the perfect machine for casuals... a second screen, nintendo of the amazingly successful wii... could not do it at their price, what makes you think the Xbox at $500 is going to do it?

So what? Really want to start arguing which machine is the best for the price? I don't think this will be very constructive.
Microsoft has a plan and are actively targeting these markets... The PS4 is not; like it or not; the Xbox One has been designed to be that all in one box. The fact that you think the PS4 is enough for that will not change what Microsoft is doing and what the perception will be when they start their marketing machine for real.

So no, I do not think a WiiU or a PS4 can be compared to the Xbox One in term of offering and I'm not talking about the price... But if the price is the only thing to consider or if you just do not find any additional values in Microsoft's next console; then our opinions are just different :)

Well, so long as you realize that there are already 99$ products that use voice and gesture control for tvs, and competitors range from apple, google, samsung, and even sony.

And while I know what you mean by what MS is doing. I just think they have a vision but are so far ahead with that vision and where they are looking that it might hurt them in a bad way at the begining. Of course Ic ould eb wrong and you are right as of right now MS offers WAY more than the PS4 or Wii U but they have to convince the consumers that what they offer if worth the current price AND worth paying for on top of their other services.

If they pull it off then they will blow both Sony and Nin out of the water because an all in one box will be ideal. So time will tell what happens! Hopefully it works out for the best though!
