Forums - Gaming - Prediction: XBox 1 will win the generation (consoles)

Historically, people prefer to buy specialized products, not all-in-ones, aside from a couple key specific items (like phones). And you can't say consoles are like that because even the wii was specifically just gaming, and beat both the other multimedia stations.

Oh... And the smartphones are actually a very good exemple of why you are wrong with this statement (even if you want to ignore them)... People wants to buy what is the most effective for them (other than fanboys...) and if a device is doing that, they'll go for it (I'm not saying the Xbox One is doing it as we do not know yet, but this is what Microsoft's vision is).

the PS4 will win next gen

VITA 32 GIG CARD.250 GIG SLIM & 160 GIG PHAT PS3

I see it doing worse than Xbox 360 and that never made it to 1st place. And to think you predict PS4 would be last is just crazy. Price will sell the PS4 just like price sold Xbox 360. I mean why pay £80 more for a camera most of us aren't interested in? among other things. I expect PS4 to be decisively first place throughout the 8th generation.

Prediction: Switch 2 will outsell the PS5 by 2030

XB1 > Wii U > PS4

With all the recent threads about how the PS4 will win and XB1 will fail to do too well, I decided to make my own prediction claiming the opposite. I believe that the order for system sales will be: 3DS > XB1 > Wii U > PS4 > Vita. I won't get into HH's in the OP, but here are my reasons for XB1 being top dog.

  • The Xbox brand is much stronger than people realize. According to google trends the XBox name was googled more than the Wii + Wii U & PS3 + PS4. Obviously, this doesn't guarantee anything but back in 2004 (farthest you can go back) PS2 was the winner based on google searches. Last gen? Wii was the most searched. DS also beat the PSP & 3DS easily wins over the Vita in terms of searches. Halo is also a very strong brand and is searched way more than any Nintendo or Sony series besides for...Pokemon. (Who would've thought?) irrelevant
  • Microsoft has loads of money to spend and will surely market the crap out of the XB1. $1 Billion? Wouldn't surprise me. I've already seen XB1 adds in the movie theater. Nothing they didn't do this gen.
  • Microsoft seems to have a concrete plan in place to make the XB1 succeed. They have been creating new series as well as buying exclusive 3rd party games. I expect this to continue and they will build up their 1st party games. They also may release a new gameplay peripheral such as Illumiroom which could spark interest in the system. Kinect should still sell systems as well. Concrete? I wouldn't call it like that with all the backtracking and PR mess, not to mention they are still messing up with their hardware this late...their focus is still very confusing too.

Next, things against the PS4...history.

  • The most powerful system has never won a generation...ever. Why? Who knows. You can't say it's because of price though because the PS1 & PS2 dominated despite not being the lowest priced system. SNES was the most powerful console of its generation. Please don't give me Neo-Geo or Atari Jaguar crap, save it, those were on some kind of limbo of their own. PS1 was the lowest priced console when it released (Saturn at $400) PS2 was $100 more than Dreamcast, but you really want to compare DC vs Sony coming off PSone? PS2 had DVD, dev support, yada yada yada...
  • Ever since the PS1, the "normal" system has never won a generation. What I mean by "normal" is a system that doesn't do much different besides for being more powerful. I believe many factors helped the original PS's win but some of the bigger factors were the incorporation of a CD & DVD player. The PS3 never had that "special" thing due to bluray not taking off. PS4 also has nothing that sticks out. (For now) Bluray didn't take off? lol. The PS3 saved Bluray, even if didn't sell like hotcakes because it was still $600/$500.
  • Sony isn't in the best position to get into a price war with Microsoft or Nintendo. This could hurt them in the longrun. Microsoft is not in the best position to go into price wars with NOBODY. They Xbone requires Kinect to function. That pretty much guarantees it will never match the price of the PS4. If MS can lower the price of the Xbone, Sony will still be better positioned to lower it further and keep a $100 difference.

Finally, why will Wii U outsell PS4?

  • I believe that Nintendo actually can make something of the Gamepad. I think this will begin with Wii Party U. I also fully expect some type of Pokemon game that could be a huge hit if done right.
  • Nintendo has the biggest series in the industry which they can rely heavily on.
  • The price is cheaper than the PS4 which will help.

No, Just NO.

Anyone on this site actually agree?

I do think Microsoft has the power to win in the US market. But you seem to be under the impression that Microsoft is one big, happy family. They are not. The XBOX division will have a limited budget. If they do not succeed with that budget, Microsoft will simply not bother with them and disband the division all together.

I don't know about Wii U, but in the end will be PS4 > X1. No doubt.

The point is, one of us will be wrong and one of us will be right.

So, it's a good idea to figure out just how valuable these things are.

Historically, people prefer to buy specialized products, not all-in-ones, aside from a couple key specific items (like phones). And you can't say consoles are like that because even the wii was specifically just gaming, and beat both the other multimedia stations.

The problem with xb1 is that nobody is looking for ALL that in one box. Casuals don't care about ALL that. The casuals want the casual parts that appeal to them, which is pretty much ONLY the voice and gesture control. If they want a blu-ray player, they can buy one for less than 99$. That's 300$ cheaper than an xb1.

The only people who will be supporting this console are the gamers, yet they are forcing the gamers to adopt the casual stuff. Why do you think ps4 is selling higher in pre-order? Because sony fans are more on the internet? It's because Sony is giving people a gaming console and not anything they don't need.

And the people who want kinect to play games? There's already a kinect on 360.

It's not going to work imagine. Sorry.
And all the xbox fans who make arguments like yours of "it's unpredictable what will happen", or "who knows", "i could be wrong", are going to see that the market MS is targeting is as vaccuous as those predictions.

Seriously ?

First of all, it is not because you can do all of this with other devices that nobody is interested into having an all-in-one device, and this is what Microsoft is envisioning... Your statement (bold) is just rootless and this is the reflect of your own opinion; stop generalizing...

As far as the pre-orders; the people pre-order are mainly GAMERS, and guess what; this is not the market I was describing... The Xbox One is going to attract more people in the long term. Also pre-orders were "obviously" biased with that DRM failure from Microsoft, nothing to do again with what I'm talking about.

And Kinect on the 360? really, This is the best you can do? Guess what you can play games on a PS3 or an Xbox 360; why bother to upgrade then?...

Now stop acting like all Xbox fans or people believing in Microsoft's vision are all wrong. The truth is that you have no clue either and other than this DRM fiasco we yet have to see what the future has in store :)

How can people believe in Microsoft's vision when they themselves couldn't? We don't know now whether the TV thing will pay off, but can't you see the odds are against them given the DRM mess?

If the box had something that the more casual users wanted and at a sensible price... then maybe. At $500 with what its currently got... don't think so.

You could call the Wii-u the perfect machine for casuals... a second screen, nintendo of the amazingly successful wii... could not do it at their price, what makes you think the Xbox at $500 is going to do it?

So what? Really want to start arguing which machine is the best for the price? I don't think this will be very constructive.
Microsoft has a plan and are actively targeting these markets... The PS4 is not; like it or not; the Xbox One has been designed to be that all in one box. The fact that you think the PS4 is enough for that will not change what Microsoft is doing and what the perception will be when they start their marketing machine for real.

So no, I do not think a WiiU or a PS4 can be compared to the Xbox One in term of offering and I'm not talking about the price... But if the price is the only thing to consider or if you just do not find any additional values in Microsoft's next console; then our opinions are just different :)

Wow calm down... you made a statement about it being aimed at the casual market just like the wii... I dont agree. That's my opinion... don't comment in a forum topic if you don't want people to respond ;)

The best machine for the price, well that's all a matter of opinion, and fine to argue about, but i didnt specify a casual like market now did i. :)

Secondly what is it exactly that the PS4 cant do that the Xbox can (if you say live TV or cloud well then this whole conversation is pointless). People talk about the XboxOne being this amazing device that will suddenly appear to be a much better proposition than other consoles, but no one can actually say what this offering is that is above and beyond what we already have/got.The PS4 has all the media gubbings it needs, Gaikai and Sony pictures/music adds another level if they really needed it.

The price is absolutely important on so many levels. If you don't agree, then nothing i can do about that. Yes of course making something look worth the price is very important... but there is nothing shown yet that makes the XboxOne anything more special than the Wii-u or the PS4.

1 .First of all, it is not because you can do all of this with other devices that nobody is interested into having an all-in-one device, and this is what Microsoft is envisioning... Your statement (bold) is just rootless and this is the reflect of your own opinion; stop generalizing...

3. And Kinect on the 360? really, This is the best you can do? Guess what you can play games on a PS3 or an Xbox 360; why bother to upgrade then?...

4. Now stop acting like all Xbox fans or people believing in Microsoft's vision are all wrong. The truth is that you have no clue either and other than this DRM fiasco we yet have to see what the future has in store :)

1. The consumers have spoken. And xb1 forces too many different products into one package that people don't need. Like, it would be if I got a phone that was extra expensive because it was also a military gps device. I don't give a fuck about that. KEY WORDS incoming: "google.maps.is.good.enough.for.me". Learn the bolded underlined italicized, because that is how the casual makes purchases.

2. No, the market you were describing is the casual market, and I told you that casuals don't care about all-in-one products for 500$. Look at ps3! Look how it fared against the wii! Look how much loss Sony had to take to stay competitive! And Sony was the cheapest BluRay player on the market! What does xbox have that is cheapest on the market? Literally nothing. It is the most expensive everything on the market. FACT.

OK so the casuals haven't shown up yet. Fair enough. But wait, the current USA pre-orders show ps4 in the lead. Yet, xbox360 has more installed in USA than PS3. Wait, how can that be that the brand with more audience in the US have less sales? How can it possibly be that the GAMERS (according to you, the only people who have pre-ordered) have chosen ps4? Man, and the casuals aren't even helping a little bit, because if we imagine that even a third of the purchasers of xb1 are casuals, that is going to pose an exceptionally dire outlook for GAMERS interested in an xbox. Preorders WERE biased from DRM. Preorders were like 11-2 in favor of ps4. Now afterwards, weekly preorders are more like 5-3. Preorders are STILL weighted toward ps4.

3. Slow your roll. People upgrade to a ps4 because they want the better graphics and games. They are the core and hardcore market. It is a normal progression for that market to continue upgrading. The core and hardcore are blatantly not interested in Kinect. They will be forced to upgrade. The people who are Really interested in kinect (the casuals) already have it, and new kinect does not introduce anything meaningfuly new that can convince casuals to spend 500$+ to upgrade. You talk about the wii market...the wii market didn't even see fit to upgrade to wiiU. How you gunna argue that casuals will spend nearly double the amount of money to upgrade kinect. Ridiculous.

4. I do. I do have a clue. Clues all around. Getting ragged on by virtually every major outlet. Edge. Financial Times. Time. Fox. Gamestop. Gamepots, Gamespot, Gametops, GamePTOS...the list goes on. Casuals don't even know it can play used now! The worst thing to do is confuse the casuals. Why? Because they don't pay enough attention!
More clues: Preorders are getting slaughtered by the ps4.
Clue: PS4 has INCREASED it's projections and shipment by 20%. It's prediction is already way above xb1. It's like 13m vs 8m.
Clue: XB1 FUNCTIONS WON'T EVEN WORK IN EUROPE. So much for that all-in-one product being so useful to everyone. Just another example of people seeing something unnecessary. When you over-generalize, you end up just giving people reasons NOT to buy.
Clue: XB1 isn't even releasing in rest of world until late 2014, and many countries even longer!
Clue: Only 21 countries will actually work with xb1, and your account is IP TIED, meaning importing won't even work!
Clue: XB1 is over 100$ more expensive than ps4 considering online purchase as well.
Clue: It is DANGEROUSLY close to the e3 2006 599 US DORRAS fiasco. It's 560$ plus tax. That's not even with a game.
Clue: It's biggest games are all on PC.
Clue: It competes with much cheaper products, including the WiiU which has its own tv functions, aptly named TVii.
Clue: XBOX currently has no CEO
Clue: It's a camera in a USA political environment where SPYING is the current year's hellfire!
Clue: Germany has already declared kinect a surveillance device
Clue: Legislation is currently being written that would make ANY camera device that sends information to a company require several conceits including:
-a message legible from a distance, by the product, saying in big letters "You are being watched"
-a secondary indentical product that doesn't use the camera at all
-an agreement to let a user completely opt out of surveillance

Your face when this is MS' current entire strategy.
It's over man.

What MS needs to do is compeltely halt production, put the console back in the oven for another year, work out a new strategy, and do it correctly. Sorry for so much negativity, but there you have it. This console is a train wreck, and you will see soon enough.

Not even close dude. My prediction will would be something like this:

PS4>>>>>>>>>>>XboxOne>>WiiU

The gap between PS4 will be bigger then the gap between XboxOne and the WiiU.
