Manufacturing is already well underway so while this is annoying its not surprising

Im sure non launch consoles will probably come with the patch already installed

Aye. It shouldn't be an issue either since I'm sure almost everyone who buys it day one will have an internet connection.

BTW, any news about the whole Gamestop thing you can shed light on?

"One of the things we were very exicted about was 'wherever we go my games are always with me.' Now, of course, your physical games won’t show up that way. The content you bought digitally will. But you’ll have to bring your discs with you to have your games with you.

You always were going to have to bring the disc with you unless you wanted to wait for a 20-40GB download to finish.

Yeah, that's true. There's no way that sharing plan would have been one iota as cool as people were hoping. It was a distraction from how bad you were getting Xboned, and it would have been severely limited by third parties and/or eventually discontinued anyway.

Makes sense, but nice to know Microsoft always had a plan B. Unfortunately that does mean you'll have to connect ONCE to the internet at launch to get that patch. My guess is with future production it won't be necessary, but initial produced units will require this.

I don't think there was always a plan B. This sounds like rather drastic response to whatever bomb Gamestop dropped on them yesterday (spill it, Ben!).

Exactly. They saw the difference (likely 10 to 1) on preorders and said "fuck that!"

Yes, in that ballpark I believe too.

Most people here don't have a good grip of trends. Actually much like Microsoft leaders who are completely out of touch with reality, and today we get public evidence for it.

They didn't understand how destroyed Xbone would have been.

But they also still don't understand how much damage a bad rep does, and how destroyed Xbone still is despite making a 180 on the DRM.

It's gonna be 2:1 in sales in this gen, PS4 versus Xbone. You read it here first.

Oh PS4 is definitely still going to beat Xbone in every region this holiday.

MS needs to advertise like fuck that DRM is gone and their system's new policies. But they couldn't of possibly left it as is and remained viable.

They should have changed prior to E3. I am positive Sony was quiet on that just to see what reaction MS received and then changed prior to E3. MS should have realized this as there was already massive anti-DRM on the net before E3.

Now they will take the next shows and probably several interviews to change perception prior to launch.

I already have a few friends who are cancelling their PS4 orders in prep for Xbone. So its not all lost.

This is good and all; but there will still be people who consider Microsoft as untrustworthy. People will always bring this up no matter how much Microsoft tries to qualm this problem. But good on them for trying to fix things.

Microsoft never had a plan B, they changed the software because the bad press from the fans and early adopters forced their hand. They underestimated the power of the internet and news surfacing. We'll just keep forcing it until they make a usable console for gamers.

It was Sony

Sony announced that they weren't doing the drm, then MS buckled under the god damned pressure

This generation doesn't start until Sony says so lol

Yeah should've happened at E3, but there's still Gamescom and TGS to get some media buzz.
For the US MS will surely market the shit out of it.

Microsoft was siding with EA to force Sony to crack under the pressure and accept DRM. Its always Microsoft taking the side of the f'n publishers and Sony left the decision up to the people. The media then questioned EA letting them know the people were watching them and EA backed down on its DRM policies. Microsoft backing down is a one two punch to both themselves and EA.

I am so happy for Xbox loyalists! DRM FREE GAMING FOR ALL! FUCK YES! ENJOY YOUR XBOX!
