Forums - Gaming Discussion - I want the XBOX ONE to Fail and Die.....Am I wrong to feel this way?

I personally think it's alright as long as you have a good enough reason. And to me, thinking that the direction a product is going would negatively affect the industry as a whole or send it down a path you would hate is a decent reason. I honestly never liked motion controls and while I didn't want them to die off completely I certainly didn't want them to be so successful that they became the controls for the majority of games. Wanting the XBone to fail seems similar to me if you believe that its success would open the door to every publisher doing the same.

That said, your desires are probably too fervent in this instance.

I don't get it - offensive threads like these appear here all the time and noone gives a s apparently, but as soon as I post some insignificance I get warning from moderators.

Deus Ex (2000) - a game that pushes the boundaries of what the video game medium is capable of to a degree unmatched to this very day.

You're definitly not wrong in this thought. If anything, it's "wrong" for the industry if this thing succeeds. If the Xbone succeeds, gaming is done for IMO, at least for the common person. Developers will continue to get more greedy and take more and more rights from the consumer, and the costs will get farther out of reach for the common gamer. MS and third parties should not be rewarded for their DRM and anti-consumer policies.

It's how it is now... Site has lost all integrity IMO.

It's a zoo.

Sensitive souls need to leave before launch.

On topic: I am not sure what the Xbone does and doesn't anymore. I am waiting for more clarifications from MS about games sharing.

I don't really agree, to be honest. It's hard for me to believe in anything but, "if you don't like it, don't buy it." I think the term "anti-consumer" is mostly bullshit. In a capitalist world, there is no altruism in business. If Microsoft is the only one pushing the boundaries, it's because they're the only one who thinks they can get away with it. If the market doesn't like it, and it has choices, then they'll fail because of that, not because they've crossed some made-up ethical line in the sand. I don't really understand consumer entitlement and the outrage that comes from that.

I think that's his point, he wants it to 'fail' and 'die' on the market. He can't mean it literally because it's not a living being..and I can't see any other way it could fail or die. He wants people to not like it and not buy it.

When are these doom and gloom threads gonna stop!? Isn't anybody tired of these negative Xbox One threads? Why can't I be excited for the Xbox One without getting hate? Your hatefulness will not detract my passion for the Xbox brand.

I have internet, so the always online thing doesn't affect me. And I don't even buy my games on physical discs anymore, I buy digital whenever I can. That's the direction Microsoft is moving, to digital only. There's no need for physical discs anymore. Digital is the future people whether you like it or not. Yes Microsoft made some bold decisions with Xbox One, but that's what they needed to do. They needed to make a big enough contrast between the X360 and the Xbox One. And bold decisions get people talking about your product which is a good thing. You guys don't realize the more you talk about Xbox One and the more negative threads you make the more exposure you're giving it and the more curiosity and temptations you elicit from the customers to buy it. So you're only doing them a favor. Therefore if you don't like Xbox One, then don't talk about it.

And the product isn't even out yet, we haven't even had a chance to touch it. So until the Xbone launches and people get it in their hands and they realize how good it is, I think the hate will subside. All the chatter will quiet down.

sensitive souls? How ironic.

say anything remotely neg about Sony or a Sony console and a raft of reports swiftly follows.

True. But you won't get banned for it. You particularly should know that by now. Stop complaining each time you sense negativity towards your favourite company. For two reasons, it's their fault their PR is horseshit, and you are too old for that. The original post is asking a question, if you think he is out of line, report it and move on. Otherwise you are not better than the sensitive SONY fans who whines each time you bring up financials.

No, you're not. Microsoft's system is an abortion without the customer (gamer) needs in mind. It deserves to meet a tragic ending. Thats not how you design a product.

I dont really want it to "fail and die". I want it to be a moderate success, but a vast failure when compared to the 360.

If it did Xbox numbers, I would be happy. They need to be taught a lesson, hopefully the public teach them it.

If you "literally hate" a console then id suggest getting some perspective in your life.

It's actually quite tragic to think that way about plastic and transistors.

Think of it this way.

Imagine investing thousands of dollars of stock into a company that shows great promise and innovation, only to have it crash and burn thanks to foolish policies and leadership.

MS had Everything going for them, then they screwed it up again and again. I was extremely excited for console and hoping that MS would show us a vision for the future. Instead, what I got was Anti-Consumer policies + DRM + $499 + Some of the worst PR and confusion I have ever witnessed.

The only benefit for the consumer of these always connected and online policies seems to be the 'infinite power of the cloud' which comes off as a marketing gimmick akin to the CELL.

At this point, I am hoping to wait and see if the console bombs hard enough during Spring 2014 that MS changes their mind and announces a whole new strategy, policies, and price cut for E3 2014.
