The 7th gen is already over.

Funny how 130 is a big difference when comparing PS3 to PS4, but when comparing Wii U to PS4, the 100 dollar difference is nothing. lol

Nah, as long as the consoles are still selling then the generation isn't over.
Do people really consider PS3 winning if it passes Wii at some point?
The race is done as soon as the next generation is completed started. As soon as ps4/one launch the race is over.
Any future sales are just meaningless in discussions. Be like someone bragging about being the winner of a race of 27 miles when it was a marathon. Just cause he decided to run another .8 miles doesn't mean he wins anything.

By that logic it's still the 6th gen.
Gens last until they are succeeded.

Don't be silly, you know that not how things work. Its not Sony or MS fault the Wii has already blew its load. Ps3 and 360 are still selling strong so they are still relevant.
People still care about DS still trying to outsell the Ps2 we dont just say "No" sales don't count anymore because the gen is over. Lmao stupidest thing I've ever heard.

gens last until they end. The money the companies make on sales of 7th gen are still good. People are still buying and playing the games. Generations can run at the same time.

Once PS4 and Xbone are out, the transition from 7th to 8th will be complete.

If you wanna talk money, then Nintendo beat ps2. It was more profitable.
But console wars is not about some final number or profit. It's about which console has more sales by generations end. The generation ends when a new one begins.

Well assuming the PS3 sells another 10 million before it dies (which seems perfectly reasonable) that would be 90 million, which isn't exactly "not even close" to 100 million :P (yes the Wii will also sell some units in that time, but it won't be much). To be honest i don't think even the current gap between the two can justify "not even close" but such phrases seem to be worth a lot less than they used to these days.
OT: I can't see the PS3 pulling ahead of the Wii in life time sales, but you never know, weirder things have happened. It's waaay to early to call anything on the next gen though. While the PS4 is certainly looking the most likely right now, the situation could be completely different in a few years.
