well in my head hacking/pirating is really the same thing.  oh i know, there are like 20 guys that do custom firmware stuff or whatever but a vast majority of the hacking is just to get free games.  whether fully cracked or not,. if games can be pirated i'm counting that as hacked.

I won't argue your opinion but hacking would mean that the pki is cracked which most probably won't happen with Xbox One. It didn't happen with first Xbox, not with 360, thus I am concluding this. This does not mean you can't play pirated games, of course. But given how much Xbox One seems to rely on online I think ps4 gets "hacked" first.

nor i to argue yours,. in no small part because you are technically more correct than i.  :P

..i just think that the technical details has some obvious vulnerabilites.  but hell, what do i know about the ps4 at this point?  maybe theirs will be even larger.  but knowing the "rightous" nature of hackers i feel like the xbone will be far more targeted.   the only thing i can think that will truely deter hackers (read pirates) is if the cloud processing thing is really important to xbone.   why pirate a game that won't play without MS's servers?    yeah, the elite guys can probably stage their own server too but that's way beyond the average joe.

..or, if the disinterest in the wiiU propigates over to MSony (and based on the wiiU post i don't see why it wouldn't) no one gets hacked.  i actually like that idea a lot.

No doubt the hackers will want to target the XBone.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

"I think we may have reached the point where homebrew on closed game consoles is no longer appealing. The effort required to develop and maintain an environment for a big, complex modern game console is huge. The cat and mouse game with the manufacturer requires ongoing effort. There is a very real threat of litigation. Game pirates would become not just big users of the result of those efforts, but by far the overwhelming majority (not because there are more pirates, but because there are fewer homebrewers). The fact that the Wii U isn’t selling nearly as well as the Wii did doesn’t help drive enthusiasm either."

I hope Xbox One gets hacked first, just to show Microsoft they can't enforce such practices. Microsoft will be in a long unwinnable battle with these people too. People may have hacked Wii U already though

I can understand your hope but I doubt it will happen soon... I still bet PS4 will be first because it is rumored to work completely offline.

I know this is riduculous to say but PS3 was last to get hacked and i expect PS4 to be the same but if PS4 ends up being really popular it's bound to get hacked, they will try anyway. While, DRM and anti-second hand gaming is like a target for hackers to break

Xbox One, PS4 and Switch (+ Many Retro Consoles)

Prediction: Switch will sell better than Wii U Lifetime Sales by Jan 1st 2018

WiiU is hacked but I don't think its been distributed due to lack of interest.

X1 will get hacked out of spite pretty quickly.

PS4 will depend on what they announce next week. It took PS3 so long due to lack of interest by that community. Once interested kicked in, it was rather quickly achieved.

However, X1 has so much DRM and online connectivity... I am not sure how effective it will be. Likely a way to let it remain 100% offline for retail games and connect to an entirely different network or something.

not that i know anything about hacking but...

..wouldn't xbone kind of be easy pickings comparatively? the system is already architect to run software installed on the hardware from any disc you stick into it. all you have to do is intercept/dupe the online validation and you'd have free reign to run any software you want.

add to that hackers are some of the most "rights" oriented people i know.  they'll think it's their duty to liberate the xbone.

The quick answer is "no".

The first problem is that the Xbox One's primary OS is the HyperV OS.  Nothing runs within this OS, except the two other virtual machines.  The Apps OS will only accept signed and verified applications through the apps channel.  Much like on Windows 8 RT.  The Games OS has a similar limitation.

There are a few limitations though.  The software would have to be signed in order to get it on the HDD, then it'd need to be authenticated.  Then to further complilcate things, each of the OSes have the capability to restore themselves with a proper version should it detect something that doesn't belong.  And on top of that, if the console, while doing it's authentication, determines that the system has been compromised, it can disable the entire console.  Rendering it banned.

So yep.  People might try, but they run the risk of bricking their box.

Personally, I think the X1 will be the last to be hacked ... especially when Microsoft requires the checks every 24 hrs. I'd say Wii U, especially considering its hacks have been underground (for now).

Everyone needs to play Lost Odyssey! Any opposition to this and I will have to just say, "If it's a fight you want, you got it!"
