Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Mario Kart: Double Dash!! Fans, why do you say DD is best Kart?

Double Dash had the best battle mode: Bob-omb blast on Luigi's Mansion
That being said, I think Mario Kart DS is the best mario kart because it introduced retro cups, mission mode, and there were a lot of stats on the karts to micro manage - the level design was fun and the kart design was wonky. That's just my opinion though

Games can and should tell stories and share ideas through their mechanics. This is the intrinsic element of the medium and this is how experiences should be crafted in video games. No company does this as well as Nintendo and their echoes from the past.

Ppl voted for DD in attempts to be hipsters. Only cause it's different and not considered a success. Know what I mean? ''DD is considered to be a failure, but that's because the mainstream folks can't understand it's appeal but I do''

Actually I genuinely like it the most.

@OP  To me it is my favorite because I really liked the special items you could get with each character.  You could add a little strategy by picking two characters together with different unique items.  Also certain Karts worked better with certain characters so it also put a little strategy with who drives and who shoots.  Not to mention punching people beside you and stealing their items.

EDIT:  MK7 would be a close 1st with Double Dash in my opinion.  I really enjoyed MK7 as well.

Ah so it's more than a gimmick then. Haven't played the game in forever and the time I did spend on it wasn't much so I remember very little. Still doesn't fundamentally alter the core gameplay. Nothing wrong with that though!

Not everything should be thrown around being called a gimmick.  It is a feature in the gameplay.  From what you said I can call most things in any game a gimmick.

Not sure if you're serious due to this being the internet, but everyone I've talked to about this genuinely likes DD as who wouldn't, and I'd say +6 million sales on a base of 22 million is a success.

Dino Dino jungle, baby park and Daisy cruiser are enough reasons to love double dash. I love those courses :)

It's a feature that doesn't really do anything which leads me to believe they only added it to differentiate the game from previous entries. I call stuff like that gimmicks. If that sounds negative then sorry I don't mean it to be. D:

Except for Baby Park, those tracks are in MK7, so you should love it too. =)

The "Double" part, the introduction of Toadette, Wario Colosseum, DK Mountain, Waluigi Stadium, Daisy Cruiser, Baby Park (with double items bringing chaos), special items, Bob-omb Blast, unique karts, unlockables everywhere, and my brothers/cousin liked to play the game as well so I got full multiplayer experience whenever I wanted.

*Note, technically Double Dash is my 2nd favorite Mario Kart, but it was my first video game that I loved instead of just enjoyed, so it's very special in my heart. :P

It's the double-driver mechanic. I don't think it was just a gimmick; I think it was a pure improvement of the gameplay that shouldn't have been removed. When change doesn't turn into progress you're doing it just to do it.

How exactly did it improve gameplay, and how does that outweigh MK7's advantages?

Being able to hold and switch between multiple items along with the item differences that came with choosing different racer combinations made it much more tactical and dynamic.

To be honest I haven't played 7, but I'm just saying that's why a lot of people like DD.  It's my personal favorite for those reasons.  The games have all just seemed "same-old-same-old" since then (with the exception of DS's challenge mode, which is another feature that should have stayed).

Bloodbath Paddy Wagon Ultra 9

By far the best courses and the drifting was so much fun
