Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Iwata Laughs, Becomes CEO of Nintendo of America

How will this effect Nintendo as a whole? Clearly there will be better communication between Japan and NoA, but what will this mean?

It could quite possibly may make things worse considering the different outlooks the Japanese have in regards to buisness compared to Americans.

you would love that to be true

If Iwata does resign next year, I wonder if Kimishima will be the guy who replaces him.

You have no understanding of American and Japanese business by making such a remark. Keep the juvenile snidey comments to yourself please and keep this thread mature, k?

Considering the differences in the business cultures between the two markets and how the Wii U is grossly underperforming, how on earth can more-of-the-same be a good move?

Not even sure why you comment in Nintendo threads considering it is pretty obvious you don't like Nintendo.

I have no bias with regard to gaming companies, however I have been saying since the Wii that Nintendo's abandonment of core gamers would bite them in the ass, and that going down a route of gimmicks rather than true gaming innovation would only hurt them further.

Looking at the sales of the Wii U, it looks like I was right. Being right does not mean I dislike Nintendo, but I can spot idiotic business decisions a mile away, and the Wii U so far is one of those idiotic decisions. Making the guy who gave this to-date disaster (failing to meet two sales targets is a disaster) the go-ahead many NA responsibilities is probably even more idiotic.

then tell me how more of the same will be good for the other consoles? every console has more of the same. it was always like that, there are new and old franchises every generation. better graphics, etc. the difference between Nintendo and Xbox, PS is more of the "same" still sells better then every sony ip. Typical Mazty comment.

Considering Iwata is the one responsible for the 3DS's turnaround in Japan, garnering Japanese third party support on the Gamecube (it would have been even worse if Yamauchi had stayed) and acquiring things like Dragon Quest and Monster Hunter as exclusives, brining him in to fix the floundering NA support by NOA seems like a smart move imo.

At the end of the N64 era and the beginning of the Gamecube, Japanese 3rd parties wanted nothing to do with Nintendo and he has changed that. Capcom, Atlus, Namco Bandai, Sega, Platinum and even Square Enix are all supporting Nintendo now. They may not be giving the best support at the moment, but it is infinitely better than it used to be. He isn't going to come in and try and impose Japanese culture on the western devs, he'll apply the same strategy he did in acquiring support from those Japanese third parties. He will sit down with them and discuss what they want, offer up solutions, compromises, possibly collaborations, and maybe even snag a few exclusives with that war chest they are sitting on (which has increased even with the operating loss).

There is also the potential of making localization easier since he would be the one deciding and not a CEO thousands of miles away. I don't see why some more 3DS XL colors couldn't be brought over either. I mean, if they bring an all black one they have just earned themselves $200+ easy.

I dont get, I though Iwata was Nintendo (all regions) CEO. I though that because he was the only dude in every video for all the devices they made in every region. And now he is NOA CEO?? So he has been demoted?

He was promoted from Japan CEO to Japan AND NoA CEO.

So he was given more power. Lolz.

We have absolutely zero clue what has been green lit and what announced games look like aside from X and Yarn Yoshi

Which is a horrible, horrible mistake by Nintendo. People can't get excited about games they haven't seen and don't know about. They should have already shown us Bayonetta 2 footage, more on Yarn Yoshi and X, maybe unveiled a few new secret ones while saving others for E3. Their silence makes it seem like they have nothing, and stops people getting excited.
