Wait, let me get this straight.......

New York wants stop people under 21 from developing a disgusting habit which causes you to stink out of your mouth, and slowly kill yourself?

Will the injustice never cease?!

If they want to why not let them? You could argue for banning all unhealthy food for people under 21 as well. Not to mention force people to do mandatory exercise since it may be good for their health.

e'g' New York wants to stop people under 21 from becoming lazy unhealthy slobs by mandating 45 min of daily exercise reducing obesity and health problems?

Will the injustice never cease?!

I knew someone was going to respond with some nonsense like that. As if cigarettes and unhealthy food is the same thing.

Ok......

1. Food, healthy or otherwise is a necessity. We all have to eat to survive, but people like different things, and also have varying budgets in terms of the quality of food we can afford. So of course we have free choice in what we eat. Smoking is not a necessity.

2. Food, healthy or otherwise stimulates our taste buds. We eat things that we perceive to taste good. Cigarettes are disgusting. This is a fact. Nobody who picks up a cigarette for the first time perceives it as an enjoyable experience. It is a habit developed purely out of one form of pressure or another.

And as for how lazy or physically active a person chooses to be, of course we can't influence that. Are you actually trying to draw a parallel between that and banning harmful substances?

Let me make something clear, if people want to smoke, so be it. Nobody can stop you if you really want to smoke. Likewise, if you live in the US, and really want to buy a gun and shoot yourself, nobody can stop you from doing that either. That's an extreme example, but the point is that when people really have their mind set on something, they will always find a way to do so. Does that mean we should make the harmful choices particularly easy to follow through on? I hope not

poor people cant afford to eat healthy? What a laughable statement. if people are THAT poor then they qualify for food stamps.

Cigarettes are disgusting is a fact? I think you'll have a bunch of people arguing with you there. Thats more like an opinion.

I don't smoke, but this post is absurd

I didn't say poor people can't afford to eat healthy, but obviously people living on different budgets will often eat different foods, and have different quality foods. I could list countless examples to that end, but I really don't think it's necessary. You probably just misunderstood me.

Cigarettes being disgusting IS a fact. Of course, if you keep smoking them, and allow it to become am addiction they will eventually become "good" to you. However, like I said in the last post...nobody who picks up a cigarette for the first time actually enjoys the taste. They cough, they weeze, and make some sort of grimace with their face. I see it all the time here in Germany, as smoking is a serious problem here. Anybody who claims they liked the taste of a cigarette the first time they tried it is full of shit.

I have plenty of friends who smoke, and they would all testify to this.

Then your friend's should live with their decision and not try to stop people from making their own decision's

Also calling someone full of shit for stating their personal taste is rude and completely unfounded.

Completely unfounded? Let me list of some stuff and you can stop me when something comes up that sounds tasty to you.

Ammonia: Household cleaner.
Arsenic: Used in rat poisons.
Benzene: Used in making dyes, synthetic rubber.
Butane: Gas; used in lighter fluid.
Carbon monoxide: Poisonous gas.
Cadmium: Used in batteries.
Cyanide: Lethal poison.
DDT: A banned insecticide.
Ethyl Furoate: Causes liver damage in animals.
Lead: Poisonous in high doses.
Formaldehyde: Used to preserve dead specimens.
Methoprene: Insecticide.
Maltitol: Sweetener for diabetics.
Napthalene: Ingredient in mothballs.
Methyl isocyanate: Its accidental release killed 2000 people in Bhopal, India, in 1984.
Polonium: Cancer-causing radioactive element.

If I've offended you, I apologise, but I honestly do not believe your claim that the first time you tried a cigarette you found it tasted good.

Anyway, I'll leave the topic alone. I think it's safe to say we won't be coming to an understanding on the subject.

Look up the logical fallacy of composition. Invalid inference from the nature of the parts to the nature of the whole.

They are trying to ban the freedom to make bad life choices :P

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

I honestly don't give a fuck at this point. If people want to kill themselves slowly and piss away money at the same time, they can start at whatever age they want. If you're stupid enough to smoke cigarettes, knowing EVERTYTHING that could go wrong with them, there is no hope for you. "I can quit whenever I want." Fucking do it then.

And that is America at its finest. You can't take the freedom of me trying to kill myself right as I become a legal adult, how dare you. If I want to become a financial burden on my friends and loved ones, that is my choice. Muh rights, muh constitutions, muh freedoms.

Lastly, why do we choose to defend cigarettes and justify their usage as stress relievers? With all due respect, that is bullshit. Buy a fucking stress ball, chew some gum, scream into a pillow, take a nap, read a book, play some angry birds, go for a walk. There are so many things you can do to relieve stress in safe manners or at least mildly safe ways. For the record, cigarettes have not affect me personally or my loved ones, I just really hate the damn things.

They're clearly running out of actual things to do if city "health" initiatives are taking up this much of their time. Sounds like the Mayor's office could do with significant staff reduction so that everyone who's left only has time to deal with things like fire/ police, water, roads, zoning, and electricity.

Think of it this way: the money saved by reducing staff at the Mayor's office would instead stay in the wallets of NYC residents.  They'd be able to keep more of their own money, thus they'd be able to buy more cigarettes and expensive sugary sodas.  Buying cigarettes and soda contributes to the economy more than paying artificially high wages to busy-bodies in an expensive office building, where seemingly their only purpose is widdling their way down long lists of what to ban next.

The Screamapillar is easily identified by its constant screaming—it even screams in its sleep. The Screamapillar is the favorite food of everything, is sexually attracted to fire, and needs constant reassurance or it will die.

Cigarettes is an unnecessarily costly thing to buy.

Heart disease is the #1 killer in America and tobacco cigarettes gives people Heart Disease.

Theres also a couple of cancers that can never be cure 99% of all cases of someone having them, and Tobacco Cigarettes gives people incurable cancer, like that actor from such movies as Ghost died from.

And tobacco cigarettes is an addiction. They only continue to be smoke by so many users because of addiction issues, but a lot of these people do want to quit, just not all of them.

Cool story bro. Go tell someone who might not know... Little kids probably?

But they Should remove corn-syrup from soda to reduce how much sugar is put in it which will make it taste better and make it healthier all at the same time.

And they should buy marijuana which is more safe then red wine. But corporate tobacco cigarettes is more worse then smoking heroine.

They should put all that cigarette money into Marijuana because it will make them emotionally happy and full of energy and it will make them healthier and live longer and prevent cancer and prevent other diseases and increase their metabolism and age more gracefully.
