Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Reggie:Wii U Releases will "Dramatically Increase"

What I really can't understand for the life of me is what Nintendo was doing that whole year before Wii U launched where they completely stopped supporting Wii? You'd think they would have been using all that time to develop plenty of great first party Wii U games that could keep it going its first 6 months or so. But no, we still have ended up with a total drought during that time. Basically since Skyward Sword Nintendo has only released one other high profile home console title, and that's NSMB U. And that's a fine game and all, but it's certainly not revolutionary and something that used up all that game developing time. So what were they doing the last year and a half or so? Twiddling their thumbs? I know my Wii U will eventually be a worthwhile purchase, I mean just look at the 3DS now, but Nintendo has pretty much put the nail in the coffin for me supporting their systems at launch. I mean there's just no point.

That more than anything is what really gets me.

I swear if they get up and waste precious time (and resources in terms of making them) on Mario Golf U and Mario Party U at E3, I will lose it.

I wouldn't mind a new Mario Golf. And really, I don't care a lot about how much the console sells... I want to play the games that I like, not brag on the internet about console wars (not a shot at you. just speaking in general)

At this point I don't care what franchises or new games Nintendo announces, I just want to see that they are actually working on something.. anything...

I don't want them because I'd rather they spend time and resources on games I want to play.

Pretty much this. It's hard having faith that they are working on stuff.....they are, it's a given. I just want to actually SEE it. I would be perfectly okay with having a Direct next week/early May that talks about W101 (possible release date leak of June 6 in Germany), Wii Fit U, MiiParty and maybe VC releases, and lcose it out with a Bayonetta trailer or something. Those games I suggested would also be coming out before E3, ideally. Even though they are the uber casual games, it would mean releases and there is no reason to hold EVERY card for E3.

People say the Gamecube was crap, didn't have 3rd party support, "lost" the console war for that generation.......who cares? Does it actually mean anything? No. It's not like Sony won a trophy or something stupid for selling the most consoles. I loved the Gamecube. Yeah...I said it. I have 54 games on hand (more are stashed away somewhere) and only 10 of them are first party. So much for not having 3rd party support. If you enjoy the games you get on the console of your choice, why does it matter what anyone else is doing? I didn't own a PS2 or an Xbox....and I sincerely couldn't care less about what those two companies were doing. I wasn't jealous of their support, or XBL, or the graphics behind each console. So yeah....pretty much what you said...but with a lot more words, haha.

OT: I feel like Reggie worded his comment oddly. In the full interview they had just finished talking about the 3DS and he said that "Over the next nine months, the pace is going to be dramatically ramped up.".....but when talking about the Wii U, he says "as we prepare for E3....launches will dramatically increase"

I feel like if he meant "After E3", "Later this year", or even "We have a large amount of stuff planned for E3", he would have said that instead of what he did. Really though, it's true. RE: Revelations, Fast & Furious, the VC, Deus Ex, eShop, possibly W101.....that's much more than there has been and Injustice just came out too. Hopefully it isn't just poor wording on Reggie's part and they have a ND planned for sometime soon after the investor meeting next week. W101 is still listed as Q2 after all...

So is The Evil Within coming to Wii U or what.

Bethesda says no.......that would be my (as well as others) best guess. But given this is Mr. Mikami's game (and not bethesda's) there's hope.

As much as I'd love it to be on the Wii U, I wouldn't be surprised in the least if it didn't happen. I don't think Bethesda has ever published a game on a Nintendo console so it'd be nothing new. There's no technical reason it couldn't come to the system, but Nintendo would just have to convince them it would be worth their time.....maybe having them play Zombi U aone in the dark would give them inspiration. The demo alone got me all tense, far more than any other "Survival Horror" game has in years. If the install base manages to get close to the revised projection (15m for the year) it would just be money sitting on the table if they didn't bring it.

Nintendo must really be holding some bombshells...their previous projection was like...20m or so and they probably thought things would go a little faster soon after launch. They revised it down by only 5m, if they didn't have massive titles in the works, they would have cut it in half. It's going to be an exciting year leading up to the holidays, and thereafter.

The Evil Within isn't a big name game so this may or may not be needed. However, this could be a problem, the Wii U getting new franchises. I believe however, in fact, I have no doubt in my mind that Nintendo has some powerful announcements for the Wii U this year. So, the Wii U is basically "dead" until post E3.

NINTENDO

nintendo forever . . .

I'm pretty excited for Mario Party U to be honest though :D>

Doesn't take much to see a dramatic increase when the baseline is close to 0 first-party games in a while.

We all know that Mario Kart and the like is coming though, but I would hope they have a price cut to go along with the games too.

I think 299.99 is a good price for this Christmas. It comes with 8gb of storage and the wiiu gamepad. I think it compares favorably to an Xbox 360 4gb Kinect Bundle in terms of a hardware purchase. Plus it's a system with a future rather than a past.

Well, both PS3 and 360 will likely get hefty price cuts this holiday season. It won't compare favourably to $149 or $199 systems with thousands of games if it's still at $299 and $349 by then.

So you should also believe nextbox and ps4 will bomb because it's gonna be $400+ systems against 149 and 199 ones.
