They have to leave shop channel open.

why?

-To sell games; all Wiiware & VC is also compatable with the Wii U in Wii mode.

-It is home to important software fixes, like the Skyward Sword save file fixer.

-It is the only way to get the Netflix, Youtube, Hulu+ or Amazon Instant video streaming apps.

that still doesnt answer my question they dont have to leave it open, they can shut it down if they want. Does the Wii U not have the entire WiiWare and VC library on its network? And if they dont how does one transfer their games from Wii to Wii U? is it on a flash drive, what about data that is not transferable to that? Im asking cause i really dont know.

Is the SS update really on the store? I have the game but i never reached the part where it became an issue. Fair enough on the apps, but wouldnt most people have that stuff by now? Wouldnt they just use it on another device?

And what about the people that doesn't have the WiiU and only the Wii? Do they have to buy the WiiU just to play WiiWare and VC stuff..... not a good idea.

I understand that, but they will shut it down eventually, I dont know how long it will be for that to happen. I dont have a Wii U and only a WIi, but i honestly would not care, but i only speak for myself

Yes, but 99 million Wii's are out there that have online.  It's a large market to regrab if they can advertise the video streaming capabilities of the system people already own.  If people pull their Wii's out of the closet & put them online to stream video they may decide to buy some VC games also. Sorry, just a little rant about how Nintendo is blowing an opportunity with the original (online) Wii.

Sure they could shut it down if they wanted, Nintendo could also stop making video games if they wanted.  The thing is, even though sales on the Wii Shop Channel are surely no more then a trickle at this point, they are still moving.  That new game Retro City Rampage just released for WiiWare and moved a few thousand copies, I think that alone shows that people are still willing to use the service.

I'm not sure about the overlap between VC games that are available on both Wii & Wii U, but I'm almost positive the Wii still has many more games available.  I think WiiWare is only available on Wii (or in Wii mode on a Wii U), meaning the Wii Shop Channle is the only place to get the few gems on the service.

The apps, yes people who will use them already have them, mostly, but if the Wii's memory needs to be reformated or if the channel becomes corrupted you need the Shop Channel to redownload it.  The Wii is actually a great little video streaming device for smaller TV's & shouldn't be tossed just because it's old.

Interesting you brought up Retro City Rampage, from what ive read, the WIi version was the worst selling one. Im not arguing no one is using it, im just saying is enough people using it to justify Ninty keeping it up. I mean, they are essentially keeping up three different stores, one for 3ds, Wii and Wii u. Can you access the store from Wii U just by switching to WIi mode? Cause if you can that is kind of badass, and then they really should keep it. its all semantics, the store itself has been getting poor support in the past few years, so im kind of indifferent.

IMHO Ninty have been blowing online opportunities with the Wii probably since the beginning, this is just one area where the WIi in general wa alway far behind the comp and im not just talking PS360

Nothing wrong with a good rant mate, we all want Nintendo to succeed :)

Wait..does this mean no more Mario Kart Wii online eventually? I'd say SSBB, but no one cared about that lag-fest anyway. But damn, I hope we don't lose Mario Kart Wii online services. :( How about Netflix and Hulu?

I know they seem to just be talking about channels here that barely anyone used, but it brings to mind that the same thing could eventually happen to all of Wii's online-related functionality.

Also, Nintendo would be wise to keep the Wii Virtual Console. At least until the Wii U gets the entire service transfered over and updated.

Too soon. What about all of the people who just bought a Wii within the last 6 months? They should've given it at least another year or two.
