Sure they could shut it down if they wanted, Nintendo could also stop making video games if they wanted. The thing is, even though sales on the Wii Shop Channel are surely no more then a trickle at this point, they are still moving. That new game Retro City Rampage just released for WiiWare and moved a few thousand copies, I think that alone shows that people are still willing to use the service. I'm not sure about the overlap between VC games that are available on both Wii & Wii U, but I'm almost positive the Wii still has many more games available. I think WiiWare is only available on Wii (or in Wii mode on a Wii U), meaning the Wii Shop Channle is the only place to get the few gems on the service. The apps, yes people who will use them already have them, mostly, but if the Wii's memory needs to be reformated or if the channel becomes corrupted you need the Shop Channel to redownload it. The Wii is actually a great little video streaming device for smaller TV's & shouldn't be tossed just because it's old. |
Interesting you brought up Retro City Rampage, from what ive read, the WIi version was the worst selling one. Im not arguing no one is using it, im just saying is enough people using it to justify Ninty keeping it up. I mean, they are essentially keeping up three different stores, one for 3ds, Wii and Wii u. Can you access the store from Wii U just by switching to WIi mode? Cause if you can that is kind of badass, and then they really should keep it. its all semantics, the store itself has been getting poor support in the past few years, so im kind of indifferent.
