Forums - Sales Discussion - Wii finally loses its lead in the UK.

Didn't know the UK market was that small.....that's about the same amount of PS3s sold in Japan which is not many.
What's the second largest EU market? Is UK seriously the biggest?

Interesting. And congratulations.

Looks like USA next (~1.5m on the numbers we have here) then 3.5m for PS3 to overtake it in Europe and Japan. Can't see Japan going to be honest, but Europe might by 2014.

well PS3 made up about 3m on Wii last year in Europe and the Wii is basically dead now and it's already beat it by .6m this year.  So yeah I'm thinking maybe Q2 of 2014 at the current rate (total guess I didn't do the math this early).  Although if PS3 gets the big $199 price cut we could see an even quicker catch.  As for Japan I could see it happening simply because PS3 is still priced at nearly twice as much and still relatively expensive.  By 2017 it could happen with price cuts and GT6 maybe.  Also looking at PSP it seems the old systems still sell alright there.

Not sure if serious...but yes. And 62mil isn't small!

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

Congratulations. I've never been a Xbox360 fan, but whoever takes the 1st place deserves it :D

Congrats to the 360 . Wii has also done a good job.

Small? Lol

In the UK 62m people buy approx 23m home consoles.

in Japan 127m people buy approx 23m home consoles.

And yes... It's by far the biggest console market in Europe.  France is second with approx 13m, some 10m behind.

The UK is essentially the joint second largest home console market on the planet with Japan this gen.

It's sad that germany is even behind France. germany has the biggest population and the biggest economy in europe, so it should be the biggest market. But somehow videogaming has a bad reputation over here, so it ends up on the third place.

I think Germans game more on PC than on consoles or handhelds.

That's true for most of europe, but it may also a reason, because UK seems more console-centric. We don't have good numbers on PC-market (not that I'm aware of), but I'm pretty sure while PC-market may look better in germany, both added it will stay behind the UK.
