I am of an older generation of gamer, my first games were in black and white, like Asteroids. I've actually gamed on tvs that were only in black and white before.
What I see and read on most of these forums is subpar means of communication. Thus I present each of you with a challenge. It is as follows:
- No longer use "fail!" as an argument for something you disagree with. Replace it with something along the lines of "I believe you are incorrect on this"
- No longer use emtpy calorie terms like "strawman" and the like. Instead, explain why you believe the example is poor
- Stop using the word "fanboy", for either both good and bad purposes
- Instead of saying "that's dumb" or "you're an idiot", etc, debate like a grown adult
How you debate on the internet will affect how you debate in real life, and the lack of educated debating is shown clear as day not only in our governments, but in everyday walks of life. The quality of a good, healthy debate or argument has dminished dramatically. How could we have gone from an era of intellectuals in the 18th century to the era of Jerry Springer-like conversation?
Take up the flag and see if you can rise to meet this challenge.
