That was a beautiful post. Adding it to Vgchartz hall of fame.

Not every gamer is enlightened, so they need some direction. I am one of these people who sees it as their duty to spread the truth. I am a hardcore gamer.

If the games these lesser gamers like are no good, they need to be educated on why that is the case. If they mistakingly believe the system they play is a next gen console, they need to be told why they are wrong. Even if it takes a lot of effort to get it into their heads, it has to be done. As a hardcore gamer, telling Nintendo fans why their games and systems are bad is actually more important and more enjoyable than playing video games. I know it will be a long time until everyone of these heretics has been converted, but I am confident that eventually everyone on this planet will be sick of Mario games and the constant rehashes of IPs from the stone age of video games.

I respect your well thought out posts at times including the sarcastic ones (not always) but you could have toned it down for this one. I can't expect that from Sales2099 as the signs of intelligence is lacking there. Oh well.

You're right. Every generation fanboys have gotten worse and publishers have been exploiting blind loyalty more and more. I remember back in the Sega/Nintendo era that we didn't even call ourselves gamers. There was a little bit of rivalry, but if your friend had a Nintendo and you had a Sega you can bet you'd play each others systems on the weekend.

Now it seems that there are gamers who HATE their rival's. I don't know where this hate comes from, but I blame the internet. People have respect for each other in real life, but on the internet they can say any vial thing they want with no repercussions.

I don't think there's anything we can do about it apart from ignoring the really bad fanboy haters. But they don't seem to need attention to do what they do. They seem to do it because they really are filled with hate and I don't know how to combat pure malice.

I'm sorry you're leaving the industry, but I want you to know that you are enlightened and if you do choose to return, there is the venue of indie development that is making headway.

Video games are a very newborn industry, and movies have been able to break out of those money-making, art-sucking holes. For example, many people watch foreign films or cult films.

Sometimes you might be on here and see us discuss company x and company y, but that's only because sales interest us. Other than that though, I personally am a retro gamer. Just the other day I was having fun watching a playthrough of Goonies II, by the old Konami :) It feels like some of those games have a special something that games today will never have, no not even a good share of Nintendo's latest games.

Having visited this forum for 3 years, I believe I've come full circle with my exclusive dedication to Nintendo consoles. I have finally realized that games are a hobby that are meant to be enjoyed irrespective of the platform they are on. I realized that when I understood that it's the games I need to play and enjoy, and nothing else.

I will always remember the resentment I had when companies left Nintendo in the 64 days and it drastically altered the face of gaming to this day, but in the end it was bound to happen. All I personally desire is for games to find that childish mystical nature of the good old days, when people were less paranoid and could put more of themselves in their projects.

yeah i also never really understood those console wars, i can understand when someone has only money for one console and hopes that every game he wants to play comes for that because he just doesn't have money to buy every console but that is still no reason to talk bad about that game then.

there are a lot of people who would love to play a game they talk bad about just because they don't own this console, that's really pathetic...and giving games bad reviews on metacritics or so to harm the game just because those games aren't on their preferred console is even more pathetic. it's almost criminal lol

about the rest you said, maybe that's a reason i like indie games so much, they are not the most expensive in production, best looking or whatever but many give me the feeling that the guys who made them could do much more what they had in mind as what they had to do.

"all it takes is a few reviewers to give bad scores and the internet spreads it like wildfire and before you know it people who havent even played the game are badmouthing it on forums and in discussions with friends, spouting the same opinions and points they read from said bad reviews"

This is what bothers me the most, to be honest. People let the internet decide their opinions for them. I didn't know I wasn't supposed to enjoy Dragon Age 2 or Final Fantasy XIII until I fired up my web browser but by then, fortunately, I had already decided I liked them.

As for myself, I'm more of a "I can only justify a PC + one console in my budget" kind of gamer but I have nothing (much) against the other systems. If I had more disposable income, I would certainly have more gaming systems and more games.

However, I will say, as a former business owner, that it's the responsibility of the consumer to complain about things they legitimately do not like. That is what consumers are supposed to be doing, as long as they are real issues with real rationale behind them. No one should ever say, "hey, don't complain about PSN not having cross-game chat," or, "hey, don't complain about Xbox Live gating away multiplayer." People don't have to hold the same opinions about what they like and don't like.

Honestly, I don't have much of a problem with people who make their decision then stand behind it. It's human nature. People pick consoles for a reason, after all. I just don't like people who seem to spend more of their time attacking the things other people like. That's what really hurts the image of the gaming fanbase. For example, I don't like Mario but I have no problem with people who do. I can recognize that as personal taste.

Ultimately, the gaming industry is a victim of it's own success. It's attracted the attention of the business-world and has been swallowed by it. That's not unusual, of course. The same thing happens in every industry. Running ANY business requires equal proficiency in business to whatever skill that industry trades in. If you want to run a cake shop then you'd better be as good as running a business as you are at making cakes or you're going to get crushed by those who are. Kind of sad, yes, but it's an aspect of reality that will never go away.

I really enjoyed reading your post and I'm sad to see you leaving the industry you have loved being apart of due to the way things are handled nowadays.

Like HappyDolphin said I too can find myself struggling to find a game that makes me feel like I used to over a decade ago. I feel a lot of it has to do with the lack of passion, or a more sales centered drive in the industry nowadays, I also think that I have just become jaded. Playing games for as long as most of us have things rarely seem new or exciting to us. Most mechanics or plot devices we have seen in some form or another so it's hard to find something really special. What makes it worse is when games alter their formula to become closer to whatever big trendy game is popular atm. It makes what would be unique games feel like weaker clones of what their target was.

Which is why it's easy to tell if i'll like a game or not regardless of what the reviews say. I can look at some gameplay and decide for myself if i'll like the game or not. Some of my favorite games have been ones without that much notoriety or high scoring reviews.

If your opinion of a game is effected by the console it's on (exclusives), for example, if you're largely a fan of the PS3 and you see news of an xbox exclusive, if you can't stop yourself from being negative about the game, or if you simply dislike something because it's an exclusive for another system, then seriously, go to hell, i hate you, and you're the reason why the industry is as cutthroat and messed up as it is, because publishers love fanboys, they love you for your wallets and your blind stupidity.

But what about you?, can you say the same?, are you the "haha my favorite console is getting xx exclusives and yours is only getting y" type, or "haha, my console has sold xxx more than yours", or even the "haha im getting x game and you're not"...  or.. are you the type of person to say "wow, actually that game looks nice, i dont own the console it's being released on but i may have to pick one up to play it", or maybe the "it looks great but i don't want to buy the console just for one game, i'm glad you guys are getting a great game though"?

Because really, if you cant get over the platform and love games for games, you're not really a gamer, you're just an idiot.

A gamer plays games, regardless of loyalty.

It sucks when as a fan you are on the losing end of those discussions, but this behaviour isn't limited to gaming. I have said this before, but sports fans are loyal to their team....why the hell would they support the opposing one and buy their merchandise? Makes no sense.

Rivalries are a part of this industry, nor are they unique to it.

EDIT: Sounds like your getting laid off and your saving face by resigning on your own terms. Right?

I'm resigning for my own reasons, but if my boss were to hear me expressing these views he would instantly know exactly who wrote them as i have been very vocal about my opinions of the companies direction as of late, i may not have been fired but lectured and told what to and what not to say on the internet - personally i dont see why i cannot express my views freely as long as im not breaking nda.

But as it happens a large part of why i am resigning is because of stress and family matters, adding work load and disagreements with projects on top of that is something i can currently do without.

Either way i was and still am due to start a new job at my dads old employers place in april, working on a launch title.

I like how you said Konami without saying Konami.

That's awsome. I hope it works out for you.

Think you can get me a job there too? Right now I'm walking on a Android/iOS game for kids, but I'd drop that in a Manhattan minute to work for one of the pillars of gaming.
