Forums - Sales Discussion - Media Create Sales: Week 2, 2013 (Jan 07 - Jan 13)

The sad part is Nintendo basically really designed the Wii U for the tastes of Japan, probably gimping the chipset too to be able to have low power consumption and small form factor, two things American consumers really don't care about.

And the off-TV play is really more conducive to the Japanese home market as it makes it like a quasi-portable in the home.

But it looks like they're not biting.

I also hope that people from all gaming preferences FINALLY realize that launching a system with noted competition with a high price and little to no games gets you nowhere and that the turnaround process takes an extremely long time, if the turnaround is even possible.

Vita game production cannot happen on a dime, the price is still where it is MSRP wise @ launch in most territories, all this in the face of a cheaper competitor (who was struggling early on itself). The same type of scenario is playing out for the Wii U almost line for line, even with Nintendo's noted franchises.

The video game industry in collapsing under its own success and its kinda sad for us to see it as it is occurring.

Just for reference, this Wii U number is lower than the PS3 did it's first January during its first week, so the Wii U is starting to develop a disturbing trend of posting sub-PS3 numbers when it was that ridiculous launch price still in 2006/07.

Lower first December than the PS3 in North America too in NPD. That's not a good sign.

Wii of course was still hot selling 90k+ this week in 2007 in Japan.

the wii u will be killed off by 2014. its just not selling and its only 299$, not being able to sell so soon after launch indicates that nintendo fans have moved on, it basically has no fanbase.

What???

can we wait for the first price cut?

For Mario Kart?

For the next Zelda?

For the next 3d Mario?

Almost all you do in this site is spell doom about Nintendo and the Wii U. What are you going to say if the Wii U start selling much better?

The Wii U is selling the same as the ps3 and it released weeks ago. Nintendo need to do something now, I know you could show numbers about it seliing more than the Vita but this is Nintendos HOME console.

Dem WiiU numbers be painful...though it is a home console. It's selling close to PS3 which is meh, the games need to come, and they need to come soon.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

I am not saying it is selling well. I fact, I know is not selling well. What I am saying is that we need to give both the PSV and the Wii U time to grow. Time to receive price cuts, to get a better library of games before we start saying silly things like the Wii U is going to be killed in 2014.

Interesting enough, I do not feel panicked like I did with early 3DS sales.

These numbers are probably more dire than the 3DS situation though. Maybe you're just getting used to it, lol.

Honestly I think Nintendo may have to bite the bullet and give the Wii U a similar price cut as the 3DS got. I don't believe this is something just showing off a Zelda or Smash Bros. trailer will solve.

$80 reduction for Black Nintendo Land bundle ($269.99)

New White Model w/Wii Fit U + Balance Board bundled (fitness pak, $299.99)

Ambassador program for early Wii U adopters, free Xenoblade HD, Zelda: Wind Waker HD, Super Mario Galaxy HD,
Mario Kart 64 HD, etc.

With a weakening yen it may not hurt their financials as badly, but they also may balk at basically having another year of losses. Iwata could be in some trouble IMO.

According to VGchartz, the 59.000 yens PS3 sold 30K during the 2nd week of 2007, so 50% more than the 30.000 yens WiiU now. WiiU also sells only slightly more than Vita during week 2 2012, with less incoming games to improve the situation. Worse, a wave of high-profile new releases are coming for PS3, PSP/PSVita and 3DS which will further reduce consumer awareness for WiiU.

You know that I am writing down everything you are saying on WiiU and waiting for PS4 to be out right?

Only $299 why don't you go and tell this to the average man on the street? Have you have heard of world crisis? Shops are closing down, and living is getting very hard if you think that the masses have still teh same money they did back in 2006/2007 for Wii you are wrong.

I agree with you that Xb360 and PS3 have more fan hard-core fan that what Wii did but...

Let's see LT sales of course it probably will be out of production by 2014 so let's wait the end of the year shall we?
